Nirvana were a nineties grunge band originating from Seattle who received a huge amount of mainstream exposure and changed the future of heavy music and even the way that the guitar was played. The inspiration of Nirvana caused a huge wave of new grunge bands forming all around the world and they were followed in their tracks by bands such as Nickelback (for a while).

Nirvana's smash hit 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is sure to be remembered in the minds of many, especially after their memorable feature on Top Of The Pops. When Nirvana's album 'Nevermind' was released it resulted in many people all over the world picking up guitars and learning to the play the songs - they were so easy to learn. Yet Nirvana's style and sound way ahead of it's time.

From the 'Nevermind' album there will also be a few tracks that stand out and will be remembered as the most prominent. Many of these have become guitarist favourites for practising, songs like 'Come As You Are', 'Polly' and 'Lithium'. With a dark dry grungy mood but cheeky characteristic edge Nirvana's songs are undeniably catchy but with a vague twist.

Kurt Cobain's raw sounding vocals combined with simplified heavy guitar riffs and a dark grungy edge propelled 'Nevermind' into mainstream success and Nirvana became huge. Nirvana's music also helped the music of other similar bands, such as Pearl Jam, gain more exposure and if one thing is sure it's that rock music has never been the same since.

Whether you're a Nirvana fan or not, the fact is that Nirvana broke new ground in the music industry and changed the future of rock music forever and nobody can deny that fact.
