Ok guys you ready for the most evil sounding yet melodic death progressive metal light hearted album of the year? well here it is, strapping young lad's "the new black" sets new standards for metal with this blindingly impressive album from the master of metal Devin Townsend.

Many people may know Devin Townsend from his other band "the devin townsend band" or from when he has featured on some steve vai songs singing. But this album is where he really does show his best work. This album is not really anything like the earlier strapping albums. i mean dont get me wrong its still as brutal as hell but it kind of seems like hes taken some of the devin townsend band style and mixed it with strapping to create this "super strapping" sound that is just incredible. Parts of the album are eerie where as some parts are quite light hearted such as "far beyond metal" which in its original recording stated "this is a homage to metal and the cheesy voices that go with it" and "antiproduct" which has what can only be described as a jazz organ operatic breakdown. you have to hear it to believe it. songs such as "you suck" show the pure deaht metal element to the style and songs such as "fucker" are an odd twist on metal/pop. If the album does just one thing it proves that metal can still be adapted into something completely new and original but still keep its roots.

If you want an album thats actually going to make all your other metal albums look bad and blow you off your chair then this is the one for you. If you buy one album this year make it this one. the artwork on the front is beautiful and the inside of the booklet it beautiful in its simplicity with each page being a very bright primary colour making the cd look as "un metal" as possible. don't be fooled though. this album withh literally blow your mind.
