I have for many years been a fan of VanMorrison. For me, his music epitomizes the rawness of the sixties, and although he has made many albums since this one, I still believe this to be one of the best that VanMorrison ever created. This album, although something of an experimental one at the time, was the foundation of a career that would span decades, and as I listen to newer works by VanMorrison, the roots that he created with Astral Weeks still come out in the harmonies and mood of his present work, although of course, like with all good artists, his work has evolved into newness. One of the most impressive images that this album produces in my mind is how new and experimental the sixties were, and how artists were encouraged to be inventive, and not merely copiers of earlier styles.
The sheer professionalism of this album ...
"This is an adventure into that downtown NewYork City vibe" ~ Armand Van Helden
For me Armand Van Helden is a dance music legend, as a child of the nineties I grew up listening to his house and techno classics. He is thee man. This the guy responsible for making Tori Amos "Professional Widow" and The Sneeker Pimps "Spin Spin Sugar" massive hits. As well as producing some damn fine house records himself such as "You Don't Know Me" and "The Funk Phenomena". His artist albums have never failed to impress; he always tries something new and inventive. As a DJ he is a master of the decks with all the tricks up his sleeve, he can mix everything thing from house and techno to hiphop and ragga. If he's playing at a club he's still sure to be the hottest ticket in town.
Armand started DJ-ing at the age of 15, he spent a lot of his childhood ...
Advantages: Fabulous shopping, bargains, great sights Disadvantages: You will be tired and have foot pain at the end of the trip
Ever since I was a teenager I had always wanted to go to NewYork City. It was probably the influence of TV shows such as Friends and Will & Grace but since then I've always wanted to see what life in the big apple was like.
There's the shopping (my number one priority!), the sights, the shows, the food, the list is endless.
I was nearly 25 when I finally made it over there, as part of a family trip with my mum, dad and sister.
I'd never been on an aeroplane for longer than two hours before, and I'm quite a nervous flyer, but the seven hours on Continental Flight CO21 from Manchester to Newark, New Jersey absolutely flew by (pardon the pun)!
Other friends and colleagues who had travelled to America previously had said about the lines at immigration so as soon as we landed everyone was ready and we walked as fast as we ...

Album Notes
BROWN EYED BEGINNINGS is a two-disc set that features material from Van Morrison's first solo sessions for Bang Records initially released as BLOWIN' YOUR MIND, and later as THE BANG MASTERS. The first disc includes the familiar tunes from those recordings, while the second consists of an untitled jam. Personnel: Van Morrison (vocals, guitar); Eric Gale, Hugh McCracken, Al Gorgoni, Donald Thomas (guitar); Artie Kaplan, Seldon Powell (flute, saxophone); Artie Butler, Paul Griffin (keyboards); George Devins (vibraphone, percussion); Bob Bushnell, Russell Savakas (bass); Herbie Lovelle (drums); Jeff Barry (tambourine, background vocals). The Sweet Inspirations: Cissy Houston, Dee Dee Warwick, Myrna Smith (background vocals). Recorded at A&R & Century Sounds, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Carlton P. Sandercock. BROWN EYED BEGINNINGS is essentially THE BANG MASTERS (which includes all the songs Morrison recorded on his first solo trip into the studio with American producer Bert Berns, plus an extra disc of strange, one-minute tunes. While the first disc, which comprises the Bang sessions proper, shows Morrison to be an already-formidable progressive blues/R&B artist, the second disc demonstrates that he was also quite the willful chap, even as early as 1967. Embroiled in legal/contractual disputes with Berns over the amount of material Morrison owed Bang, the singer recorded an album's worth of short, commercially unusable nonsense cuts. These make up disc number two of BROWN EYED BEGINNINGS, and while notable mostly for their novelty value, they are early evidence that Morrison was a man to be reckoned with.
