Night At The Opera, A (Limited Edition Replica Vinyl) [Remastered] - Queen

Whatever your tastes in popular music, ‘A Night At The Opera’ was clearly one of the defining albums of the 70s. From that striking sleeve design, the group’s logo on a white background (which sadly has far less impact on the CD than it did in the days of vinyl) and the invitation-style script, ... Read review

Advantages: The group's best
Disadvantages: None

...tastes in popular music, ‘A Night At The Opera’ was clearly one of the defining albums of the 70s. From that striking sleeve design, the group’s logo on a white background (which sadly has far less impact on the CD than it did in the days of vinyl) and the invitation-style script, to the music inside, it was a record you couldn’t ignore at the time, whether you loved or hated it.

Not the least remarkable thing about it was that it ...
...a further nine after that (excluding live sets, greatest hits collections and the post-Freddie Mercury ‘Made in Heaven’), but without in my view ever equalling, let alone surpassing, this.

The music was so diverse it was extraordinary. Hard rock one moment, camp novelty singalong the next. And the sound was staggering. ‘No synthesizers were used’ was a regular credit on the album sleeves for the first years of their career. But the ... more

POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE

Advantages: A classic album with several outstanding tracks
Disadvantages: A few quirky experimental tracks

Queen’s fourth studio album, “A Night at the Opera”, released in 1975, was the first of two Queen albums to be named after Marx Brothers’ films. (The second being 1976’s “A Day at the Races”). It is regarded by many as their best album, not least because it contains their ‘magnum opus’ “Bohemian Rhapsody”. It is also the first album to really make full use of the intricate multi-layer ...
...Queen fans, it contains no use of synthesisers (a synthesiser did not make an appearance on a Queen album until “The Game”, some four albums later in 1980) and probably epitomises the trademark Queen “style” in the 1970s. Its overall style could not be called anything other than Rock (Queen were criticised by many fans on some of their later albums for moving away from their usual style and experimenting with a dance/funk ...

A NIGHT IN WITH QUEEN

Advantages: Some fantastic tracks
Disadvantages: None

Queen - A Night At The Opera Released 21st Nov 1975 In the Winter of 1975 Queen released their fourth album, A Night At The Opera, which propelled them into superstar status in the eyes of those who hadn’t held them in such high regard previously. At the time of its release, the album was one of the most expensive ever made and was released only after EMI had paid a large amount following legal problems with the first track: * Tracks 1) Death ...
...song – Heavy, angry and a great song to put on when you’re annoyed with the world. Although I’ve never known who it was supposedly dedicated to, I read in Pumpkin’s review that it was an ex-manager who screwed the band over for money. Whoever it was, the venom in Mercury’s voice shines through on this track and when put alongside the next track it sounds even more powerful. 2) Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon Compared to the previous track, this couldn’t ...

Extravaganza

Advantages: Great rock pop stuff
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit too varied and clever clever

...but it was with 'A Night At The Opera' in 1975 that the four piece really put down their marker. It was an epic achievement and it was months in the making. They started work on songs in June 1975 and started recording in August, eventually spending three months in various studios around the country, working with regular producer Roy Thomas Baker. As ever, the band had the legend 'No synthesizers' daubed on the album, but you could have been fooled ...
...I'd been doing." With 'A Night At The Opera, he finally had the opportunity to realise that conceit and he seized it with both hands. He was to explain matters thus: "We wanted to experiment with sound. Sometimes we used three studios simultaneously. We have no such thing as a recording budget any more - we're lavish to the bone." The idea of overdubbing again and again to create a great wash of sound came to the fore on 'Sheer Heart Attack'. The ...

A Night At The Opera--Queen's True Masterpiece

Advantages: Great music by a legendary band
Disadvantages: None to speak of

A Night At The Opera, released in 1975, is their best work, in my opinion--it's completely overblown, pompous and pretentious, but it has just the perfect combination of classical influence, nostalgia, pop and visceral rock 'n roll to completely quantify these great musicians. Those rich, layered Queen harmonies have never been better, and Freddie Mercury's stylish croonings combined with the intricate guitar orchestrations of Brian May mark this ...
...The players, and their contributions, are as follows (as taken from the album liner): Freddie Mercury, vocals, vocals, Bechstein Debauchery, and more vocals Brian May, guitars and orchestral backdrops, vocals Roger Taylor, percussion, vocals John Deacon, electric bass guitar The tracks, and a little information about each, are as follows: 1. Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To.....)--An involved classical piano is a stunning contrast to the searing guitar ...

Music history begins here

Advantages: Music history via Bo Rhap , plus other great tunes .
Disadvantages: None - sheer poetry .

Queen - ‘A Night At The Opera‘ - released 1974 . This op is based upon the remastered CD version of ‘A Night At The Opera’ , and as a result , sleeve notes may be different to those of the original album. This has o be one of the most , if not the MOST revered Queen album of all time. Queen’s 4th studio album ( the previous being : Queen1 , Queen 2 , Sheer Heart Attack ) , and my favourite of all their albums . So what do you get for your money ...
...: “Queen - A Night At The Opera” 1) Death on Two Legs Right from the very beginning , dramatic music , operatic in stature , which leads to a great guitar riff by Brian May , followed by Freddies enthralling vocals . Pure rock genius 2) Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon 30’s style fun , with Freddie in jovial old school English mood . Pure fun , with some decent instrumentation , that leads straight into : 3) I’m In Love With My Car One of my ...
