Album Notes: A host of collaborators joins DJ Andy Carthy (better known as Mr. Scruff) for 'Ninja Tuna', the fourth album in his canon. With a pinch of his customary homespun sense of humour and love of all things soulful and jazzy, Carthy blends his tunes across a range of soundworlds, encompassing funk and light electronica. Guests include the likes of British hip-hop legend Roots Manuva, Alice Russell and Will Holland of the Quantic Soul Orchestra. 'Ninja Tuna' is the first record to be released on a collaborative label of the same name that sees Mr. Scruff and the Ninja Tune label working together closer than ever.

Advantages: A great starter scruff album Disadvantages: good, but not as good as keep it solid steel
...songs, because they sound good and often have lots of looped bits that last about as long as an add. This isn't as much of a culprit there though, Mr. Scruff keeps things moving.
Finding it in music stores can be confusing. Turns out it comes under the blanket rating of dance music to most of them, as does all of the ninja tune stuff.
So. If you are a scruff fan already, you probably have this album. If you're a beginner, I recommend this as a first scruff album. Even as a first ninja tune album, as long as you twin it with something from the herbaliser, but that would be another review.
Its normally cheap too. I bought it because it was £7.50 and came with a free CD sampler in tower records....

Advantages: Best scruff album ever, a little taste of everything he does well. Disadvantages: It just leaves you wanting more. Like well cooked steak.
...Whatever this costs you, its worth more. Best album ever.
Instead of being a series of disjointed tracks, this whole album flows nicely from start to finish and seamlessly crosses over some very different genres.
It starts with a distinictly caribbean feel. You relax, and about 20 minutes late you realise its suddenly gone all electric. A while later and its funky jazz, or is it jazzy funk? Who cares.
I listened to this album trying to strip down a straight 6 mercedes engine. Horrible job, but good music to work to. Very calming, and you learn all the words (where it has them) very quicky. There is a more hip-hop overall feel to it, but its still just scruff through and through.
Album specifics. Again, not proper measuring. The album is properly long, so I assume around 70 minutes, its only one CD still. 31 tracks...
