Advantages: True music is back Disadvantages: None
I now consider myself a '''U2''' fan although before this album was announced I only listened to a handful of their songs, mostly to '''All That You Can't Leave Behind''' album. U2's fan base is so huge that you have the feeling that you're left-out if you start discovering only now their tremendous back catalog. I felt the same way but it all changed once they released this pure masterpiece. I suddenly feel that '''U2'''is my band also.
...served them right, because they came back with some '''Magnificent''' songs (pun intended). The lyrics are just mind blowing as usual, Bono probably reached his high-point as a poet and songwriter.
I have to admit that the album does need a few listens before you could organize your thoughts and write your feelings down. I did and this is how I feel about '''No Line On The Horizon''':

The longest gap for the bad between two albums served them right, because they came back with some Magnificent songs (pun intended). The lyrics are just mind blowing as usual, Bono probably reached his high-point as a poet and songwriter.

No Line On The Horizon
The perfect opening track for an album like this. Starts off like a fly through the clouds in dawn greeting a new day. That's how I feel about this song. The verses are the key point in this song. The chorus is also very catchy. Pure U2'ness.
Magnificent
This is probably the best song off the album. That angry and poppy intro doesn't prepare you for what comes next. Melodic layers of guitar while Bono yells 'Magnificent', probably describing their new album. The verses are very beautiful and the lyrics just phenomenal.
Moment Of Surrender
This song was the hardest for me to like but I do now, after some good sessions of listening. It has that definitive feel of their Joshua's Tree crossed with Achtung Baby. The bass is very beautiful. The best thing about this song is Bono's vocals and the sweet melodies he resurrects.
Unknown Caller
This is simply a great song. It's not their best but it sure makes the album much better. This song has the 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' feel. The melody is just up-lifting and it makes you wanna sing along.
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
The other great song of the album is this beautiful ballad. Some said that it's 'Beautiful Day's equivalent here and they are probably true. But the song also has its uniqueness. The intro and the primary chord is one of their best. The lyrics are beautiful, they can sure make your day. When I first heard that will.i.am worked on this song I was afraid that it will sound way too poppy but it's not the case.
Get On Your Boots
The lead single of the album is the most demented song of the eleven. The fast paced verses and the grungy chorus makes it a great addition to the bands sound. The lyrics are entirely catchy so you'll sing along after a few listens. The Edge is just a genius on this one.
Stand Up Comedy
This is the weirdest song of the album. It doesn't really reminds me of anything from their catalog. But that's a great thing. The poppy element is still there but the electrical guitar has a more important role. The chorus is very melodic and the lyrics make the song an anthem.
FEZ-Being Born
The experimental intro is just beautiful in this song. After that a sweet electronic ballad surfaces out of nowhere. One of the slow songs of the album.
White As Snow
Another song with a great piano intro. The lyrics leave a wonderful imagery. It's the slowest ballad from 'No Line On The Horizon'.
Breathe
The band tries to get electrical again with this just before the closing song. It's an uplifting song about life and respect to life these days. Beautiful lyrics again.
Cedars Of Lebanon
This is the perfect closing song for an album like this. It's haunting, slow and Bono's voice is crystal clear. He does not sing here, he recites over the echoing melody. Again, the lyrics are just captivating.
U2 are back and they're back in force. The album will be no. 1 on lots of charts around the world, that's guaranteed. The guys are back and the album simply rocks. It's not the 'hard rock' record The Edge promised 2 years ago but it's still a perfect masterpiece in my humble opinion.
Advantages: Some cracking songs, a good mix of classic U2 and new ideas Disadvantages: Bono's terrible lyrics

...album deliver the goods.
No Line On The HOrizon is on eof U2s best albums to date, it has stepped away form the style of Atomic Bomb and has gone more towards their roots. Bono sounds sensational as always and The Edge still chucks out some awesome guitar.
First lets go through each of the songs:
No Line On The Horizon - The First song yuo hear on the album and starts off with a great guitar riff accompanied by a wierd sort of ringing tune that ... ...loudly and you immediately welcome back U2. The the drums come in to really kick ass in this awesome tune. The chorus slows down the song and adds a gentle guitar riff silently behingd the lyrics. As always there is a vocal to get you going and although i can't explain it ion writing you'll certainly noptice it in concert, i kniow i did. 10/10
Magnificent - A very slow build up and slightly technoy tone to the start of the song. Then kicks in Edge ...

Well were to begin, i find that this album actually very good as i wasn't sure what to expect when U2 said what the album was going to be like. The songs on the album are very catchy and if you like the singles they have released from the album then you will definately like the album. Although the album is slighty different from other albums you can definately hear the U2ness coming through all of the songs. I have been a huge fan of U2 for a long ...

Review of No Line On The Horizon - U2
Advantages: None that I can see Disadvantages: Waste of money
Well I have to find 120 words to describe this release without rewriting what I said about the last album. To sum up I would say don't bother buying. Derivative U2 album by numbers, same rock out tune to launch the album, same slow down meaningful drivle in the middle and same running out of creative steam and the end. This is an album made for two reasons, firstly to fulfil thier contactual obligation and secondly to promote the inevitable tour ... ...for the superb Sptify this is it. I only wish I had listened to the album before buying. Straight back onto my seller account on Amazon. The world really didn't need this, or probably the last three U2 albums. Even if you are a fan, or maybe especially because you are a fan, don't buy this album ...

Album Notes
Includes 24 page booklet. There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer. After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Enlisting its go-to production trio of Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite, the Irish quartet seems intent on crafting a quirkier companion piece to HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, and they succeed with restless tracks such as "Get on Your Boots," which sounds like "Vertigo" hijacked by T. Rex, and "Stand Up Comedy," a wiry number that lets the Edge cut loose with barbed guitar lines. Some of most striking songs on HORIZON are the ones that venture farthest from U2's comfort zone, as on the surprisingly weighty title track, a tune that counterbalances its nearly industrial heft with a high-pitched keyboard melody, and, of course, Bono's soaring vocals. Although HORIZON is willfully less accessible than BOMB or ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND, it's no return to ZOOROPA-level obtuseness either, meaning that U2 fans will find plenty to admire here even if it doesn't hit them with the immediacy of the group's signature anthems.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.72) - 5 stars out of 5 -- "The Edge takes one of his few extended guitar solos at the end of 'Unknown Caller,' a straightforward, elegiac break with a worn, notched edge to his treble tone....'Cedars of Lebanon' ends the album much as 'The Wanderer' did on ZOOROPA, a triumph of bare minimums..."
