Finnaly U2 are back, but will there latest album deliver the goods.
No Line On The HOrizon is on eof U2s best albums to date, it has stepped away form the style of Atomic Bomb and has gone more towards their roots. Bono sounds sensational as always and The Edge still chucks out some awesome guitar.
First lets go through each of the songs:
No Line On The Horizon - The First song yuo hear on the album and starts off with a great guitar riff accompanied by a wierd sort of ringing tune that is so soothing. Then then Bonos awesome voice comes in, loudly and you immediately welcome back U2. The the drums come in to really kick ass in this awesome tune. The chorus slows down the song and adds a gentle guitar riff silently behingd the lyrics. As always there is a vocal to get you going and although i can't explain it ion writing you'll certainly noptice it in concert, i kniow i did. 10/10
Magnificent - A very slow build up and slightly technoy tone to the start of the song. Then kicks in Edge with such a sweet guitar
riff it is so powerful. Accompanied with childrens choir in the background going "DOO DOO DOO Daa" it really is a highlight of the album. Even though the lyrics are a little cliched it is an awesome song and contender for song of the album. 10/10
Moment Of Surrener - the Album slows down for a chilling slong that starts with Bono somehow shouting quietly and singign at the same time in such a good way. The chorus of the song is th highlight of the tune with the soothing synth and guitar along with the choir quietly sneaking in behind Bono making for an epic chorus. The song is one of the few slow songs i actually like. 9/10
Unknown Caller - this song has the wieest Chorus that is really catchy, it is slow but fast and has full use of the bands potential. The trademark Woooahs of the song were amazing and will get anyone singing along as it goes along like waves. this really is a beautiful song and the chorus is catchy and invites you to learn all the words. 10/10
I'll Go Crazy if i Don't Go crazy Tonight - This song really sounds like the old U2, the twangs of Edges guitar immediatly remind you of rthe good old days. when the drums kick in the starts getting good, then soon after the chorus booms out with Bono screaming, "It's not a hill its a mountain, as you start out the climb." you will have that line in you're head fro ages. the main chorus is more faster and punky. 10/10
Get On Your Boots - this is a song that starts off fast and strong, it feels oddly out of place on the album with its fast rock guitar and bass sounding like it was ripped off atomic bomb. Still, it is a brilliant track with the main guitar ripping apart the track with awesomeness. The chorus somewhat takes a gothic turn as they slow down and say "you don't know how...beuuutiful" and is pretty creepy. 8/10
Stand Up Comedy - A wierd track in that bono never eally sings in it and mostly talk sings, it adds to the tracks title. the main guitar is pretty heavy and it is a song that will probably go unnoticed because of it's plain-ness. it is a good track with a good chorus and is a good listen. 8/10
Fez-Being Born - Starts off with a big build up and then comes out with a great tune, it really is a good track but is one that most people will forget, it is better than most rubbish people release nowadays, but U2 could have done better. 7/10
White as Snow - This is tthe ultimate slow track i have ever heard, it will touch people at the heart as the calming slow beat both lift and sinks your soul at the same time. It is also got the best piece of french horn i have ever heard and when you hear it, you will just listen in awe. 10/10
Breathe - This piano based tune along with edge in a great rocky guitar riff, ism happy and will lift your spirits. it starts with a bang and is a great track near the end of the album. Its chorus has a great impact as Bonos voice ecjoes out into the air and lifts your spirits. The chorus's main lyric "I can Breeeaaathe, yes i can breathe" is sure to have you singing along. 9/10
Cedars of Lebanon - this exrtremely slow track lets the album drift away and end on a soft note. it never picks up however and is mosly the same slow beat the whole way through. It was a let down for me and i would have put White as snow in it's place then made another fast track. If it had a decent chorus it wouls have been better. U2 should have done better than this to end the album. 7/10
Overall this is album of the year, and if it weren't for cedars of lebanon it would have been an almost perfect album. u2 are back with an awesome album and i can only hope their next one, Songs of Acsent is even half as good.
10/10
