Advantages: Gritty, compelling, interesting, fictional Disadvantages: Violent, Paints a sorry picture of Glasgow between the Wars
NoMeanCity by Alexander McArthur/H.Kingsley Long
NoMeanCity falls into that very rare category for me; books I have read more than once. It is an utterly engrossing and eye-opening read of the not so distant past, when things were very much different in the city of Glasgow.
First published in 1935, it is the story of Johnnie Stark, the "Razor King" of the Glasgow slums. Between the wars, the Gorbals area of Glasgow was an underworld of crime, with gang warfare, a disregard for authority and poverty rife amongst the unfortunate citizens. Johnnie Stark, with his twin-razors tucked inside his waistcoat, and his willingness to use them on anyone who insulted either him or his wife, became a notorious figure; revered, feared, and hated.
The story follows Johnnie's life; his birth, his fights, his prison sentences ...
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Scarring and bad customer service.
If I was asked to describe Hair No More in one sentence I would say it shouldn't be called ‘Hair No More' but ‘No More Skin' because you are hairless but have no skin either. I would absolutely advise anybody NOT to use this product - I did and I ended up in casualty.
So What Exactly Is ‘Hair No More'?
Although the title is fairly self-explanatory this is not your usual hair removal cream, it is a hair removal system which includes a hair removal cream and a spray inhibitor. You apply the hair removal cream first and then once hair is washed off you spray on the spray inhibitor to prevent hair growing back. It is available exclusively through a company called ‘Beauty News', Cremers Road, Euro House, Eurolink Ind. Est, Dolphin Park, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME10 3US.
What Attracted ME To ‘Hair No More ...

***Why I watched Mean Girls****
Honestly, there was nothing on tv one Sunday afternoon and I found the film on Film 4 so I gave it try. I was a bit behind the times because the film was first released in 2004.
I proud to say I now own it on DVD and can watch it whenever I want to!

Album Notes
Nazareth includes: Zal Cleminson. This 1998 reissue has been digitally remastered and includes 3 bonus tracks. Digitally remastered U.K. edition. Iron Maiden is usually noted as one of the first heavy metal bands to use eerie artwork for their album covers (even going so far as to name their gory mascot "Eddie"). But Nazareth was one of the first to use horror-like illustrations, as evidenced by such releases as 1978's NO MEAN CITY. Here, musically Nazareth is just as nasty as ever, reeling off a mix of raunchy rockers sprinkled with power ballads that demand your immediate Bic-wielding attention. The album features the debut of new guitarist Zal Cleminson, previously a member of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, and includes such standouts as "Just to Get Into It," "May the Sunshine," and the title track.
