1960s. Gifted with stunning voices and drop-dead-gorgeous looks their appeal was irresistible. Massive hits such as 'Make It Easy On Yourself' and 'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore' have become evergreen classics. At a time when the UK ruled the musical world the Walker Brothers were one of the few American acts to matter. Yet within three years the group had imploded and its members embarked on solo careers. In the 1970s they got back together again before lapsing into long years of silence - and then finally all three enjoyed a recent brilliant resurgence in their careers. For the first time John and Gary Walker have broken their silence to reveal the truth about the group and what led to the famous split and they lay bare the details of their private lives including encounters with the other stars they met along the way such as Walt Disney Humphrey Bogart the Beatles the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. They tell what it was like to live in the glare of publicity and under siege by fans and what the enigmatic Scott Walker was really like. Forget all you have read or heard about The Walker Brothers - this is the truth at last!

Advantages: Neil Diamond esque Disadvantages: I wouldn't particularly say it was great
Well not all my mums CD's look as good as the Aerosmith one I reviewed recently and this is one I'd never of taken a look at had she not gone "Ever heard of the Walker brothers?" I asked if they were the ones who made the plane (apparently that was the Wright brothers) or Murray and his siblings, but alas no. They turned out to be a tri of brothers in a band, suprising called "The walker brothers"...though surely they should have ... ...brothers who actually walk.

They turned out to be a tri of brothers in a band, suprising called "The walker brothers"...though surely they should have been called "The singing brothers", just to stop confusion with brothers who actually walk.

The album opens with the title track "No regrets", which begins with a sort of soft Neil Diamond feel to it (yassss Neil Diamond...I'll love this). A soft sounding american pop-rock sound of the 80's soft of like a more folksy variant on what Elvis root sounds were (where as he went rock an roll, these have stayed more country sounding). Overall a suprisingly good track, which just drags on a fair bit (just under 6 mins) with out going deeply enough into any sort of a tale. A nice start though to what I'm now hoping could be a B-class Neil Diamond (fingers crossed). 8/10
"Hold an old friend's hand" is the second track...I'm secretly hoping for more of the same, from the first track. This takes a similar but slightly less pacey and less folk rock feel. The lyrics tell a heart aching story of someone missing a love of their life and relying on their friends. A good lyrical set up. The feel of the song isn't as good as the previous track overall though despite the time being more appropriate. 7/10
"Boulder to birmingham", This song is mistitled (as "I've got to have you" by windows media player which screws up the ordering).. Back to the Neil Diamond sound (woooo), the vocals are similar to the opening song and the lyrics again are slightly down beat and about someone missing someone else. The song almost reminds me of Fred Neil's "Dolphins" from a vocal aspect at times, despite it being much more country oreientated. 8/10
"Walkin' in the sun" This song takes a kind of blues pop feel, with some brass sounding music in the background, and a soft relaxing vocal with a swing your hips feel. Not the happiest of lyrics, but a song you've kinda gotta think "I've felt a bit like that". Good solid song even if not spectacular. 6/10
"Lover's lullaby" A soft "lullaby" basically, deep hollow sounding vocals, with easy going lyrics, the song just seems somewhat evil some how. Maybe it's the vocals, or something else, but I don't like this. Sorry for fans of the song, but for a lullaby, it just seems far too haunting. 3/10
"I've got to have you"...uh-oh stalker alert. Back to the Diamond-esque feel, soft wonderful vocals, soft and tempting music, easy going lyrics and overall a loving sound. Seriously, if this album was full of this sort of thing I'd steal this from my mum. Easily the best song so far it gets everything just as it should be for the song. It has the right sort of length as well as an amazing sound. 10/10
"He'll break you heart" (copied from the case song list...but I'm thinking "You're" would be more accurate?). A convo before the actual song, just implies confusion (well makes me confused, same thing right?). The song takes a much more swing based pop sound to the rest of the album, and again makes you sway to the music. A situation that everyone has been in is featured in the song..and sadly theres nothing we can do about it. Good song though. 8/10
"Everything that touches you" A piano intro leads to what sounds like a classic ballad a song that would easily be able to finish off any good album. Something you could imagine Micheal Buble covering one day. Maybe goes on a little bit too long but otherwise a great ballad. 8/10
"Lover's" The penultimate track to the album, and the only 1 word title song on it. A sad start before quickly picking up whilst keeping a solemn feel, another song I feel Diamond could easily have pulled off (better than these 3 wondering brothers). Another song where you can kinda imagine yourself in the situation, a dumped lover falls into depression when they split. A ngood solid wonderful song about a sad feeling we all have. 9/10
The finale, "Burn our bridges", Despite the some what sad sounding title the music has a happier feeling than the previous track, yet it still handles a deeply depressed undertone of hurt. The vocal style reminds me of..Frank Zappa (odd huh?) and the song oddly has an upbeat feel despite the music still hinding suspicions of sadness. 10/10 great finale.
If your a fan of the Walkers I'd advice you to check it out...otherwise I guess see if your mum has it ;-).
Advantages: Too many to list Disadvantages: Some of Scott's solo stuff is 'difficult'
few years said, 'I've been sitting in pubs watching people throw darts'. So next time you see some middle aged guy supping a pint in the pub looking rather dour, just imagine it's Scott Walker.
