Faithless are very much associated with making classic clubbing anthems such as 'Insomnia', 'God Is A DJ', 'Salva Mea' and 'Take The Long Way Home'. These songs are still heavily played in clubland and will remain so for the forseeable future. This is the fourth release from Faithless, the follow up to their album Reverence, released last year. This album is looking to eclipse the poor showing of Reverence and I think it will do that with some ease. Faithless have once again found a balance, which has had some good results.
The first single to be lifted from the album, Mass Destruction, is a shift away from the traditional dance anthems of Faithless. It has been a hit with many people and managed to get into the top 5 in the UK charts. It delivers a strong message about the changing world and the dangers of it. The lyrics include the words: 'Whether long range weapon or suicide bomb a wicked mind is a weapon of mass destruction'. This very much looks at the wars being fought around the world which are causing suffering for many people. This song isn't my favourite, but the lyrics are very powerful.
Faithless have tried yet again to push back the boundaries surrounding dance music. I feel that they have tried to link the tracks on the album together. As one track finishes, the next picks up and moves into another area, trying to change the mood. This can be shown with the songs 'I Want More: Part 1 and 2'. The first track's eloquence is then taken on to a banging dance anthem that Faithless will be immensely proud of.
All of the songs are fairly short and tightly focussed on one area of music. They have managed to eliminate the drawn out tracks with repetitive melodies that are typical with all house tunes. They have come up with a winning formula, that is very much reflected in their entry at number 1 in the album charts.
The title track is arguably the best on the album. The presence of Dido's, every reliable, angelic tones and Maxi's gentle 'Buddhist' rapping combine wonderfully in a superb partnership. The song reflects the same sad beauty that made 'One Step Too Far' such a strong and powerful track. It also makes you wonder why Dido doesn't stick to what she's good at, singing dance anthems instead of hollow love songs for housewives.
Although the theme of love runs right through the album, Faithless focus on its more serious side throughout, questioning how we live and leadership particularly on the downbeat 'Everything Will Be Alright Tomorrow' with the cutting lyrics: "Planes crashing, trains crashing, people dropping bombs... love is gonna come round again and again."
Whilst depressing at times it is a clear that the band, like so few others in dance music have a conscience and the intelligence to inject some meaning into their music. This, in the end, is the record's greatest strength. In an age where political descent in the world of commercial music is akin to career suicide Faithless should be applauded for their conviction.
I do like this album very much and would reccomend it to anyone who is generally a lover of great music. It is emotional and very powerful, it makes me just have a think for a few minutes about the messages Faithless are trying to deliver. Going back to the love theme, the album does make you want to tell the people you care about that you love them.
I will need to listen to the album a few more times, before I can give a track-by-track break down of the album. Please check back soon for some more detail.

Advantages: good lyrics, tries out new directions Disadvantages: no stand out or exciting tracks as in past albums
I got this album in high expectation. I have seen Faithless live a couple of times, and am awed by such tunes as Insomnia and God is a DJ. However, I found this latest release quite one-levelled, and I think they will find it is quite narrow in its appeal.
Faithless have always been good at producing tunes that reach beyond a conventional dance audience, and Mass Destruction is a good example of this. Being the flagship single it sounds exciting ... ...track as the album. Otherwise, despite samples from Dido, it feels very much like background music. I would only recommend this CD to die-hard Faithless fans, or ambient/chillout dance fans, as that is my overall impression. Of course, the lyrics are excellent, and new ideas are being tried (not least in the aforementioned Mass Destruction), but in my opinion these songs fall well short of what we have come to expect. ...

Advantages: Nice chilled out music, very nice to drive to Disadvantages: All of it is quite chilled out and it starts to sound the same
This album starts with a nice intro, and a beautiful second track, smooth flowing vocals over a sweet sounding guitar riff, then it moves up a gear into "I want more" which has some real bite to it, another nice track, but then after that the rest of the songs just seem to blur together, nothing really stands out after that but it does still all sound good. Thats why i feel this is a good CD to drive to because it just flows very nicely and when ...

...of this is the song no roots, as this talks about a child who's father has just left for war, not the most cheery topic), this though does not at all detract from the overall quality of the album. I hope that everyone listens to this as it is definately one of the best albums I have ever listened to. ...

Album Notes
U.K. edition. On the strength of the lead single "Mass Destruction" alone (the album features two mixes of the song, as well as its video), NO ROOTS is another powerhouse entry in the Faithless discography. The driving groove, the subdued rap of vocalist Maxi Jazz, and the compelling, politically pointed message of the lyrics make "Mass Destruction" a clear standout track. Fortunately, there is more to NO ROOTS, as producers Rollo and Sister Bliss flesh out the entire record with gorgeous sonic architecture and stylistic flourishes that range from dub to ambient to deep house. Maxi Jazz and newcomer LSK (who lends his ragga-inflected vocal style to the group) bring a lyrical intelligence to the album. Though there are obvious dance-floor tracks and love songs ("Miss U Less, See U More"), the record has a decidedly message-driven bent. "I Want More - Part 1" rails against materialism, and "Everything Will Be Alright Tomorrow" offers a narrative about economic inequality. The tracks are sequenced to flow into each other seamlessly, thanks to the savvy instincts of Rollo and Sister Bliss. As accomplished as anything the band has done, NO ROOTS is another fine Faithless achievement.
