Advantages: Gripping Storyline, Well Acted, Well Written, Well Directed Disadvantages: None
mentioned above Javier Bardem won an Academy Award for best supporting actor, this was highly deserved as I said earlier, as he played his part brilliantly, however it did not end here, NoCountry For Old Men won 3 more Academy Awards, they were; best director and best adapted screenplay for Joel and Ethan Coen and it also won the coveted best picture award, so if my review does not get you to watch this great film, then maybe that will!
DVD Bonus Features
Also included on the DVD are the usual extras you get, including a program entitled 'the making of nocountry for old men' this is very good and if you enjoy the film it is well worth watching. There is also a short program about working with the Coen's and a diary of a Country Sheriff, these two are ok and give a luittle bit of insight into the two subjects and are worth watching ...
Advantages: Thriller, good story, great characters Disadvantages: A bit of a blood bath!
NoCountry for Old Men
There are no clean getaways!!
I have been wanting to see this movie ever since the Oscars at the beginning of this year. This film won four Academy Awards including best picture so I was very interested to see what it was like.
It is directed by the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan who are themselves 4 time academy award winners so I knew that it would be different and hopefully good. The film came out in 2007 and was actually adapted from the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy.
The genre of this film is crime thriller. I would also say it is quite a physiological thriller as the drama was very nail biting, edge of your seat stuff. I have to say that if you are at all squeamish or jumpy do not watch this film as it was rather violent and in some places quite shockingly violent. After some ...
Advantages: It's a Coen Brothers film Disadvantages: It's not as good as other Coen Brothers films

JC: [Laughs]
EC: Sigh. Who else?
JC: Josh Brolin, he might get pretty big soon but for now he's cheap as chips.
EC: Jackie Brown?
JC: No, Bargain Hunt.
EC: -
JC: Never mind. So, cowboys mean no dialogue, that cinematographer guy can make it all look good, Tommy Lee Jones holds it all together and the rest of the parts can be filled by gimps hanging around the studio.
EC: You've done Pulp Fiction.
JC: I just like saying 'gimps'. Why does the sheriff have to be old?
EC: That's kind of the hook. I'm going to call it 'NoCountry for Old Men' and the sheriff will mooch through the film bemoaning the fact that he can't relate to the modern criminal mind and the excessive yet pointless violence he continues to encounter.
JC: That sounds pretty lame.
EC: Don't worry, that ...

Album Notes
This album's significance rivals that of Dylan's plugging in at Newport. Shirley Collins joins the electrified Albion Country Band, which featured members of Fairport Convention, including Richard Thompson and Ashley Hutchings. This is a startling confluence of forms, as the full rock sound meets Shirley's enchanting balladry. Touching on love and loss, murder and rebirth, these songs are sometimes harrowing yet immensely satisfying in their delivery. "Murder of Maria Marten" illustrates that point as deep textures coalesce making for a driving, almost Celtic rock sound. "The Little Gypsy Girl" drifts about in a smoky haze. NO ROSES is another bit of proof that Collins is one of the finest interpreters of English ballad and song, and going electric does nothing but enhance her artistry.
Album Reviews
Mojo (p.130) - 4 stars out of 5 - "Full of shivery moments."
Uncut (p.141) - 5 stars out of 5 - "Collins is fearless, singing louder than ever required of her, but pitch perfect and drawing out every ounce of drama and emotion."
