Nothing Safe (The Best Of The Box) [ECD] - Alice In Chains

Advantages: An excellent collection from an excellent band
Disadvantages: Just ten songs...

...The comparison between Alice in Chains and other 'grunge' bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam is inevitable, but I will do my upmost to avoid it, as AIC are certainly on a more advanced level. Although Nirvana maybe have been the commerical success, more of the underground rewards went to AIC, with their even darker, heavier approach to the genre. A greatest hits album is just what the band needed to showcase it's skills to the world inside one collection, but with just 10 tracks, it begs the questions as to why so few? I honestly don't know. 'Man In the Box' is the albums opening track, the only track from 1990 release 'Facelift', and it is certainly one of the most famous AIC tracks, and a definite favourite of mine. Advantages: Older Alice Fans May Be Pleased/ / A lot of great songs!
Disadvantages: None especially. Some songs may be too bizarre for some to take seriously.

...Shock rock singer Alice Cooper returned in 2003 along with the release of "The Eyes Of Alice Cooper", which not only sports a vintage Alice Cooper appearance through his spider-design eye make-up on the CD sleeve, but also sound wise, but more on that later. Alice had recently put out two very hard head banging albums, "Brutal Planet" and "Dragontown", both in my opinion are exceptional concept albums full of horror and great imagery. However, "The Eyes of Alice Cooper" sees a departure from this industrial side of Alice, and somewhat returns to his roots. Which are by the way of the 70s, although some material does exist here that is reminiscent of the early 80s, such as the album "Special Forces" and "Flush The Fasion". Although the 80's era for Alice wasn't as successful as the 70's, the 80's music does tend to prove much more... Read review

Advantages: An Excellent album!
Disadvantages: Unnecessary Interlude track messes up the track listing.

...track listing incase you buy the album and get confused: 1 Them Bones 2 Dam That River 3 Rain When I Die 4 Sickman 5 Rooster 6 Junkhead 7 Dirt 8 Godsmack 9 Hate To Feel 10 Iron Gland 11 Angry Chair 12 Down In A Hole 13 Would? My dad managed to get me a copy of this excellent album in the HMV sale for just £5! I would suggest checking HMV, they sometimes have it at this price even when there isn’t a sale on, if the album is priced at more then £10 then it is best trying Ebay (I’ve seen copies going for about £6, sometimes even less!). The band members of Alice In Chains have been through a lot, and had a lot of personal problems; Layne Staley, main vocalist (who also plays guitar on this album) died from a drug overdose in 2001.
