Album Reviews: JazzTimes (p.107) - \"Bley remains inspired throughout the program....Bley's fans will love NOTHING TO DECLARE, but it should also be heard by anyone who likes to hear a great improviser push himself.\"
Advantages: All time classic tracks, great feel Disadvantages: None I could find
...of some songs (says me who can’t string 2 notes together in the same key!)
What is missing from this album – the interaction, there is no talk, no intro to the band, or any of the songs. I would have thought when he did Something, he would have had a talk about George, but there is nothing, this is the one aspect that spoilt the CD for me. It could in effect be a studio album, with some crowd mixed in, you wouldn’t really know. That is with the exception of Hey Jude, where the crowd do go daa, daa dadada daaaa, in various places.
One thing I would have liked to see on the credits, is where and when the various tracks were recorded – America I guess :-)
Say what you will about Paul McCartney, but he is one of the most influential people on the planet! The tracks on this CD are a testament to that.

Advantages: Nine great albums in a handy box Disadvantages: Not enough extras
...in the musical than made it onto the album, yet most of the bonus songs are reworkings of album tracks. 'Shoplifting Clothes' is a great little number, but makes me wonder what other gems I'm missing.
The actual box that holds the CDs is a nice thing of sturdy cardboard. The spines of the CDs are printed on the back, while the rest of the case is decorated with a design of handwritten notepaper - what looks like an early draft of 'You Can Call Me Al'. It looks a proper treat, and being the same height as a CD will fit on your shelf too.
A box is all there is, though. I was expecting a glossy multi-page insert tucked away next to the CDs, with a rundown of Paul's career and some colour photos - but nothing. Sure, I only wanted a booklet so I could read through it and declare that I'd already known everything in there, but I still feel the lack...

Advantages: Some stunning trance anthems Disadvantages: One dodgy track
...are introduced. I have struggle to work out what Paul was trying to achieve with this tune and still now i'm puzzled. Not a great track by any means. It fails to match the changing moods of the first two.

Track 4 - Reflections (8/10)
Now for the title track. There is a good, bouncing, base line throughout which is very good. It slowly builds up into a characteristic creschendo much associated with van Dyk's work. Some repetitive female lyrics take hold, but they soon subside into more of a 'house' tune. It is a great mix and blend that results in a very good tune.

Track 5 - Nothing But You (10/10)
This has to be my favourite off of the album, so much so that I bought the single on the day it was released. Some...
