Disadvantages: few weak ones

...This double cd is effectively the greatest hits of the rolling stones from 1964 to 1971. It is a great album it has all your favourites on in their original form and there are very few missing. I find the first of the 2 cds much weaker. There are some solid tunes, but no greats with the exception of satisfaction. Meanwhile all the faves are on the second cd: jumping jack flash, brown sugar, gimme shelter etc. this cd does not have a weak link (maybe the penultimate track) the tunes come thick and fast and you’ll know all the words. It starts with all the raucous numbers and ends with the tender epic wild horses – my personal favourite. This is a cornerstone to any cd collection. Buy it now.... Read review

Perhaps because of the notoriety which the affair generated, perhaps because of the persistence of this one tune, DECCA records reissued "The Rolling Stones Songbook" in CD format in 2004. It should come as no surprise why I bought this album. I already owned The Verve CD and I was intensely curious to hear the original and to see what all the fuss was about. Advantages: Another towering Elvis performance
Disadvantages: None whatsoever

...to this famous song over a simple piano and vocal accompaniment from his backing singers. That old crusty Roger Whittaker had a hit in the UK in 1975 with "The Last Farewell", and Elvis brilliantly does his thing to this here. He goes way down low on the bit "and should I return safe home again, to England", very poignant considering he never got to come here, apart from a few minutes on that military plane of course. A simple, gorgeous and heartfelt tune. The band get funky with the great "For The Heart", a song written by Dennis Linde. A nice bouncy feel-good number it is too. "Had a dream, about you baby, had a dream about me and you", goes the lyric, and you just know what The King has on his mind, and he's gonna get it too!
