Sonic Youth: Rather Ripped
Review of Rather Ripped - Sonic Youth by
Aufwiedersehen
Advantages: Sonic Youth's creativity hasn't left them just yet
Disadvantages: Shame bonus tracks weren't part of the album proper
...Rather Ripped is the, dare I say it, poppier follow-up to Sonic Youth's critically acclaimed duo comprising Murray Street and Sonic Nurse. And it doesn't disappoint; Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo serve up yet more intricate guitar interplay, while Kim Gordon provides agressive vocals and menacing bass alongside Steve Shelley's unfaltering drums. While it's not quite on a par with their best work, it serves as a reminder that Sonic Youth is as relevant today as it was in the early eighties.
1. Reena: one mouthwatering riff and it's like their ordered chaos of unorthodox guitar tuning and eerily cool vocals never went away. A barnstorming opener with powerful drums complementing Moore and Ranaldo's interweaving guitars. Gordon's breathy vocal floats effortlessly over this musical gem.
2. Incinerate: sounding like the roaring inferno...

In Search of the Lost chord
Review of In Search Of The Lost Chord - Moody Blues (The) by
Martinscholes
Advantages: Fantastic music
Disadvantages: Eventually, it stops...
...I I think I found the lost chord. Many years ago, I got a copy of In Search of the Lost Chord.
Did it change my life, for ever? Mmmm. Tough question. Because I think that the answer is, yes, it probably did.
The Moody Blues was yet another of those fantastically innovative and inventive groups that came out of Birmingham. In fact, I would go out on a limb and say that, from the point of innovative, interesting music the hierarchy would be: Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Can I prove this? Birmingham brought us The Moody blues, The Move, ELO, The Applejacks, The Fortunes, Mike Sheridan and The Nightriders, Roy Wood's Wizard, The Spencer Davis Group, Black Sabbath, Traffic, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Band Of Joy and The Spencer Davis Group. And THAT's only those from the 1960s!
Whereas Manchester had Freddie...

Review of Now Dance 2001 Vol.1 - Various Artists by
Solex
Advantages: Great tunes from the summer of 2001
Disadvantages: Some random tunes which only make up the numbers
...Considering the album came out in the year 2000 and now it’s nearly 2002 this opinion may have come late. But better late than never that’s what I always say.
As an avid dance fan, I went armed with my Xmas music voucher in my town of Bury St Edmunds. I came out with this album, Now Dance 2001. Although not original I thought It’d suit my tastes of music down to the ground. With 43 tracks and a wide variety of tunes, this album looked to be right up my street and it didn’t disappoint.
Anyway here is my attempt to describe the songs on the album, with probably the lowest amount of musical knowledge in the world. Oh well its worth a try…
CD 1 (THE POP SIDE)
1 – SPICE GRILS – HOLLER
2 – BRITNEY SPEARS – OOPS I DID IT AGAIN
3 – MODJO – LADY (HEAR ME TONIGHT...
