The idea of the Now That's What I Call Music… series of CDs seems to be to provide a cross-section of the playlist of the majority of local (this I using the term local pretty loosely, you understand!) commercial radio stations.

In fact this double CD release is probably almost as varied as my taste in music. Martine McCutcheon's version of Perfect Moment. Perhaps not the best version of this song that I have heard, but pleasant enough. Which faint praise is probably what went wrong with her singing career.
There's also The Backstreet Boys song: "I Want it That Way." Sadly, I can no longer hear this song without thinking of the Weird Al Yankovic "Ebay Song." If you haven't heard this, they have a video version of it on www.Ifilm.com a site I reviewed recently.
Here are a snatch of the lyrics: "Tell me why (I need another pet rock) Tell me why (I got that Alf alarm clock) Tell me why (I bid on Shatner's old toupee) They had it on eBay"

Boyzone, Shanks and Bigfoot (Shanks and Bigfoot? Does anyone ever hear Shanks and Bigfoot, now?) S Club 7 (WHO??) The song Bring it All Back sounded like a poor parody of The Jackson Five at their most permed and youthfulness.
However, oddly enough I still remember with fondness the Vengaboys song Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom. God knows why though. Probably because it was on the radio at work a great deal! "Boom, boom, boom, boom, I want you in my room." They do not write songs like that anymore. I hope.
There's ATBs Till I Come. Although from the title this song looks like it is a love song to a till in a shop, I am sure that they meant to sing 'til I come! Hey. Am I getting picky in my old age? Even so, there are extremely limited lyrics in this song. Good dance tune, however.
The rest of the CD is, as I say, filled with the typical playlist of commercial stations of a couple of years back. And it is amazing how many of these songs are still being spun (ha! That tern dates me, for sure!) on the same stations, today. Turn Around by Phats and Small, Culture Club, Beverley Knight, Bryan adams, Gomez, the Stereophonics, Madness, The Chemical Brothers, Melanie G, ad the somewhat unlikely DJ Jurgen Presents Alice Deejay.
There's also an immensely irritating 'comedy/novelty' song by the Cartoons, the Doodah song. A song that escaped rather than being released, if ever there was one!
There are 41 chart topping hits from several years ago. In general a pleasant double CD.
As this was a promotional copy, I do not have a price, though the ever useful Ciao price comparison service should be able to help.
