This is the Now series. It's forty nine issues old and even has it's own personal web site www.now49.com. The Now series is the forerunner in the compilation stakes, and seems to issue a compilation every four weeks or so, but it seems more often to me. In the early days they were probably a good idea , but now there's so many that it is just product overkill.
I'm sure that these sort of compilations are at least partially responsible for the demise in singles sales, the irony being , that they rely on singles for there existence. But why pay four or five pounds for one single , when if you wait a few weeks the latest Now album will have that single , plus thirty or forty others for the same price as three or four singles. As well as that it takes up a lot less room on your CD shelf.
These artefacts are ideal presents for aunties and uncles to buy nephews and nieces , when they haven't go a clue what they're into. Even I think there's at least half a dozen decent tunes on this compilation , so it would be worth my while to purchase it. My objection is the dross you have to skip through to listen to some decent stuff. However I'm quite aware that everything I regard as dross , will be something that someone out there regard as crucial listening.
These compilation must be good for DJs who frequent the wedding circuit as they contain "something for everyone" a sort of Variety Show for today's youth. I must say that though I wouldn't pay full price for one of these , I have one or two that I liberated from bargain bins in the past, so I'm almost as guilty as the rest.
Given the nature of the beast , you'll probably need to know what's on it , so here's the song listing. It's also available on Amazon for 12.99 GBP, but this is one album I'm not going to put a link to on my home info bit.

There's Stereophonics, U2, Radiohead, Wheatus , Zero 7, Basement Jaxx that I like and that's it. I have all the albums so there's no point in me purchasing this, but if there are half a dozen tracks that you like then it's worth shelling out for, but these compilation still annoy the hell out of me.

I agree completely. The only song I'd check out in that pile of manufacttured manure would be Pyramid Song.
Here is to Now 7891001 in the year 2345 a.d.
let's hope it's a slight improvement!

Agh that track listing looks like a typical Radio 1 playlist, a few gems amongst a pile of trash. I think the last album I actually enjoyed from this series was Now 4! I'm surprised they're still going! Good op, cheers. Jenny =)

I think Now compilations are released every 4 months, about 3 per year, so not quite as often as every month!! And to be honest, they aren't made for the older generation, and with so many musical styles on here it would be difficult to like any more than half really. Never the less they still sell in huge amounts and always top the album charts on release, so they must be doing something right! :)
Advantages: Good Music, Mixture of dance ad pop, all of this years chart toppers Disadvantages: Some quite boring pop songs in my opinion, others might like it.
