Im a religious buyer of the "Now" CDs and have been for a few years now, there are 3 releases of this CD each year and there are also dance versions in between. When I first started buying these CDs back in the good old days of Now 38 I always tended to listen to disk one which consisted of the chart toppers whilst CD two always had the less known rock and dance numbers - yes a great contrast rock and dance but as I have grown older I have noticed that CD two tends to be quite good as well. I believe this may have something to do with the music industry itself evolving and a lot more RnB and Hip Hop vibes are the craze and so I have noticed that the two CDs have became quite balanced in the types of song on each.

To those of you who arent familiar with what a "Now" CD is it is a compilation album of the most recent hits in the music industry. The album contains 2 CDs and normally has a very simple looking cover which tends to be very easy to spot. It is normally made up of two basic colours and NOW 54 takes up most of the space. Anyway Im drifting off the point, the Cds contain a huge contrast of different music styles which makes the CD appeal to a wider audience. Although it does seem that there is a slight bias towards more poppy tunes but remember the CD is based on the most recent popular tunes from the charts, but with todays music it seems that more rock music and RnB are taking over the charts.

Now 54 became available in stores in around March and it cost me £14.99 from HMV, I checked various other stores before buying and I found that it cost about the same in all stores the most expensive being £15 and the cheapest was £13.99 which I feel is great value for money considering that there are two CDs each with roughly 20 songs on. CD one tends to have a few more songs on it that CD two - I have no idea why they do this but it happens. The booklet inside the CD contains pictures of each musician and details about the song featured on the CD for example it will list when the song was in the charts and what album it was taken from, I find this very informative and often find myself looking through the pictures.

The tracklist for Now 54 is as follows:

~*~CD ONE~*~

1)Tatu - All the things she said
2)Justin Timberlake - Like I love you
3)Nelly feat Kelly Rowland - Dilemna
4)Richard X vs Liberty X - Being Nobody
5)Room 5 feat Oliver Cheatham - Make Luv
6)Junior Senior - Move ya feet
7)Girls Aloud - Sound of the underground
8)Busted - Year 3000
9)Melanie C - Here it comes again
10)Sinead Quinn - I cant break down
11)Darius - Rushes
12)Appleton - Dont Worry
13)Atomic Kitten - Love doesnt have to hurt
14)Blue - U make me wanna
15)Jay Z feat Beyonce Knowles - 03 Bonnie and Clyde
16)Jaimeson feat angel blu - True
17)Zoe Birkett - Treat me like a lady
18)S Club - Alive
19)One True Voice - Sacred Trust
20)Kym Marsh - Cry
21)Ainslie Henderson - Keep me a secret

~*~CD TWO~*~

1)Daniel Beddingfield - If youre not the one
2)David Sneddon - Stop living the lie
3)Robbie Williams - Feel
4)Oasis - Songbird
5)Turin Brakes - Painkiller
6)Coldplay - Clocks
7)Lulu and Ronan Keating - We've got tonight
8)Sugababes - Stronger
9)Beenie Man - Street life
10)Cam'Ron feat Juelz Santana, Freekey Zeekey & Toya - Hey Ma
11)Nelly feat Justin - Work it
12)Punjabi MC - Mundian To Bach Ke
13)Scooter - Weekend!
14)DJ Sammy - Boys of summer
15)Divine Inspiration - The Way (Put Your Hand In My Hand)
16)Queen and Vanguard - Flash
17)Erasure - Solsbury hill
18)The Mock Turtles - Can You Dig It? (Fatboy Slim & Simon Thornton 2003 Remix)
19)Counting Crows feat Vanessa Carlton - Big Yellow Taxi
20)Richard Ashcroft - The Science of silence
21)Massive Attack - Special Cases

CD one is the CD with the most familiar tunes on that are constantly on the music channels and stay in the chart for a huge amount of weeks. Again there is a contrast of music on this CD there is the pop from the likes of Girls Aloud and One True Voice and the RnB from the likes of Jay Z and Nelly and Kelly. I personally enjoy most types of music and so have no track on this CD that I recommend you avoid because I find myself singing along to each one but you all probably know your own musical taste and will know whether you would choose to avoid pop or RnB. I have noticed that quite a few of the songs on CD1 come from reality TV made bands or soloists for example Girls Aloud, Kym Marsh, Ainslie Henderson and Liberty X so a lot of the tracks you may have heard through popular TV shows.

Admittingly I do tend to find myself listening to CD one rather than CD two but I do enjoy CD two, I feel that there is a brilliant contrast of different music on each CD. There are quite a few pop tracks on CD two this time such as Sugababes and David Sneddon but it still also has the likes of Coldplay. There are a few dance tracks such as Scooter and DJ Sammy and to be honest there aren't any that I find myself skipping on the CD player. CD two contains some of the less heard of tunes which to me are Divine Inspiration and Massive Attack - dont get me wrong these arent bad tracks I just hadnt heard them before I bought this CD.

I would think that this would be an addition to most young peoples CD collections especially those who are like me who like to keep up to date with the latest music news and charts. The one thing that could be classed as a disadvantage to the CD may be that I find that each time a new edition of the CD becomes available I listen to the last one less and less and in the end it gets stuck at the back of the shelf collecting dust along with the Spice Girls. I think that among the two CDs there are tracks suitable to anyones tastes andI recommend this album to anybody.

Thanx for reading
Jenni xx :O)

Doesn't it make you feel old when you realise how far back in the Now series you remember?! I remember number 6.
