*-*-* Introduction *-*-*
Hey all! Its a while since ive been on this website but hopefully how im back and have something to say about a few products! This is my review on the new 'Now thats what I call music 71' and its probably going to be a big christmas present for many people this year with the sort of tunes that are on it:
*-*-* The Tracks *-*-*
On CD one we have:
1)The promise - Girls aloud - After a long while of hearing nothing from the girls aloud they come back with this brilliant track! Cheryl Cole has been busy on the X factor but they are together and their first single from the new album is this, its a catchy track and a great one to kick off the new now album.
2) I kissed a girl - Katy Perry - This track has caused a bit of shannanigans around promoting being a bi-sexual! However from the girl that one best new act at the MTV awards in Liverpool this year no doubt its a catchy track popular amongst most!
3) So what - P!nk - Na na na na na na na na na na na na na (yeah its that one) good track her debut single from the 2008 album funhouse, this is pink and shes back this year with a cracking song which stayed at number one for a good few weeks.
4) Sex on fire - Kings of Leon - Being a DJ everywhere I go this gets asked for and I played this in Liverpool and everyone went mental with such a catchy chorus its one that gets into your head quite easily and stays there and a great tune to sing along to.
5) All summer long - Kid Rock - Sampling two tracks from Lynard Skynards Sweet Home Alabama and Warren Zevons 'Warewolves of London' this is the track that people think of when kid rock is mentioned now. Its got to be one of the songs of this year which everyone likes!
6) Disturbia - Rihanna - This is from the album good girl gone bad and was released just before her collaboration with TI 'Live your life' there has been many remixes of this knocking around the best is probably the Craig C Vocal Mix which is on floorfillers clubmix and clubland 14. Its got a catchy riff and one of Rihannas best songs.
7)Miss Independent - Ne*Yo - This is from the album the year of the gentlemen, which was released AGES ago in America and one of my mates at the radio station told me about February this year about it and its the second single after Closer and its an amazing track.
8) When I grow up - The Pussycat Dolls - Whats happend to the pussycat dolls? One of the questions that people were asking themselves half a year ago, but now they have come back with their new album 'Doll Domination' they released this, with the lyrics that sound like 'When I grow up I wanna be famous I wanna be a star I wanna be in movies, when I grow up I wanna see the world, drive nice cars and I wanna have boobies! (Actually it says groupies) Good tune, look out for there forthcoming single 'I hate this part' and afte that they are releasing 'Watcha think about that.'
9) Beggin' - Madcon - This song is like marmite you either love it or you hate it but I love it, another tune of the year this one very catchy and overall a nice tune.
10) Forever - Chris Brown - This tune has an amazing video with great choreography a good beat and bassline,
came out around the same time as Dizzy Rascal which isnt on this album, it may be on the one before though.
11) Spotlight - Jennifer Hudson - People didnt know who Jennifer Hudson was until she hit the papers when her family died tragically. Nevertheless she still brought out this song which has a bit where she goes 'Whoo hoo' throughout it very catchy! This is my personal opinion but if you have ever heard the Moto Blanco mix of spotlight you will think the original is a pile of rubbish! Its still got that whoo hoo bit but more upbeat and better to get people on the dancefloor with (but thats a dj's point of view)
12) You Make it real - James Morrison - Ok its James Morrison, all of his songs are depressing I think its another marmite one hate it or love it personally I dont like it but thats not to say all people dont as it got to number 6 in the charts!
13) Changes - Will Young - One of them 'Did he make it?' Out of a talent competition people say he didnt but then he brings out another song, remember switch it on? That was a good record and so is this keep a look out for his new one which is called grace.
14) Tattoo - Jordin Sparks - Funny having the English and American Pop Idol winners next to eachother on the album. This was the track that won Jordin American Idol, and its a pleasant track to listen to there is a dance version that I have heard knocking around also. This was released about when now 70 was out, but it didnt do to well. She done no air with Chris Brown and decided to re release it and it done a lot better!
15) The winners song - Geraldine McQueen - Otherwise known as Peter Kay, he done Britains got the pop factor jesus christ superstar strictly on ice. Which if you missed you have to watch it took all the things that people were thinking about shows such as the X Factor and poped them all into one show and actually released the song, whereas if you listen to the lyrics on this they are very good.
16) Girls - Sugababes - Some of you may remember the older version 'Here come the girls' by ernie K Doe. Sugababes have done it again and I must say they have done it very well if youve not heard of it then I do reccomend you give it a listen!
17) Up - The Saturdays - They came out with their debut single 'If this is love' where moto blanco got onto a remix of that aswell, up is a very catchy single and the version that you will probably hear in the clubs is the wideboys radio edit.
18) Love you anyway - Boyzone - The boyband that everybody loves boyzone comes back with the single love you anyway it took me a few listens before I liked it and its done almost as if its in slow motion! If you know what I mean leave a comment and tell me that im not going loopy!
19) Hot n Cold - Katy Perry - The second release from the album one for the boys after I kissed a girl, odd having two of the tracks on the same album from Katy Perry but this is still a catchy track osme of the remixes is tha almighty anthem mix which works very well.
20) Raindrops (Encore une fois) - Sash! Feat. Stunt - Now then this is my type of music being a club DJ primerily this is the sort of music that I like to play they have made a great remix here putting in stunts raindrops with sash's bassline and going ENCORE UNE FOIS every minute makes a really good track, a bit of information for you encore une fois means Again in French
21) Angel in the night - Basshunter - This is the guy that has taken clubland by storm this year with other releases such as Now youre gone, Please dont go, All I ever wanted, I miss you and angel in thenight, from the guy that became big with botten ana angel in the night is no different! Nice beat and I like the mix from the annual 2009.
22)Pjanoo - Eric Prydz - You couldnt have the album without this track on it one of the tunes if not THE tune from the summer 2008! Its Pjanoo with that tune it sorts you out whatever your doing its big still in Ibiza and here a must for any club. One that you want to get in your car loud!
23) Paddys Revenge - Steve Mac - The dance track that I love! Play it everywhere I can it samples the Irish riverdance in it, cracking track no lyrics apart from 'Revenge' every so often Steve Mac really has hit the nail on the head with this one.
*_*_* Now then go and grab a brew before reading the second half of this review*_*_*
Got one? Good now we will continue with Disk 2 of the compilation.
1)Viva la vida - Coldplay - Chris Martin and Coldplay are currently touring the UK and will hit places like Manchester and Liverpool in December promoting their new album and this was the second release from it. Good chorus, although its had a lot of airplay still a great tune!
2) The Man who cant be moved - The Script - If you have not heard this then stop reading this review and get on youtube and have a listen now! Its one of them slower ones that you dont normally get now without it being over a silly matter, ok this one is about a girl but such a great tune!
3) Wire to wire - Razorlight - A bit different to what razorlight normally do with a bit of a ballad but artists seem to be doing this a lot another example of this is Kanye Wests' Love Lockdown where he is actually singing. But back to razorlight I prefered the more upbeat stuff but its not for everyone!
4) 5 Years time - Noah and the whale - This tune is a very summery tune, like July or Bamboleo by the Gypsy Kings, one thats very catchy and reminds you of sitting on Southport beach with a nice cold drink (or maybe not)
5) In this city - Iglu and the hearty - Another new band that have made their name with a cracking single that will get into your head the only thing I would say is that they maybe havent got the best people at writing the lyrics for the rap for example it says 'Close those doors close those doors, no no no keep them open keep them open' hey I could write one of these songs :-s nevertheless give the lads their due its a good track.
6) Shut up and let me go - Ting Tings - The band that I saw at the EMAs last week known for their percusion instruments and catchy choruses like Great DJ and thats not my name and this one Shut up and let me go (HEY!) although their new single be the one is a bit different so listen out for that one!
7) Never miss a beat - Kaiser Chiefs - This is the debut single from the album off with their heads. And what can I say personally I dont think its as good at I predict a riot or ruby but its still a good track!
8) Take back the city - Snow Patrol - This is another debut single from a new album and like the Kaiser Chiefs this is a bit different but then again snow patrol are so unpredictable they could bring something out like Youre all I have or something slow like Chasing Cars I think this is in the middle of the two.
9) Love is noise - The Verve - The big latics band from Wigan are back with Love is noise I saw a performance of this at Glastonbury and I was very impressed although people say they sound like tellytubbies when they go eh oh eh oh at the start of the song.
10) Infinity 2008 - Guru Josh Project - Ive known this song for a while and the original back in the 90s but I was Djing in Ibiza in the summer of 2008 when Pjanoo was out, and this tune was massive over there and its taking England by storm also.
11) Dream On - Christian Folk ft. Robyn - Robyn does most of the singing on this and to be honest I cant stand Robyns voice with every heartbeat was enough and so personally I dont really like this song but thats just my opinion its only just been released aswell.
12) Stepping Stone - Duffy - When she came out everyone said what a great singer she was when she brought out mercy its something different and upbeat but the rest of the album is just boring and depressing like Warwick Avenue, Stepping Stone, Rockferry but its christmas come early if you like this sort of her music!
13) Handlebars - Flobots - Who are they I hear you scream at your computer screen? They sing I can ride my bike with no handlebars, clever boy! Rap about something that we care about next time not whether you need stabalisers! Hes singing as if hes very clever, look at me I can sing with no handlebars :-s fair play dude!
14) Spiralling - Keane - WHOOAA! Were tumbling and spiralling brand new music from keane from the new 2008 album which is called perfect symmetry and what a tune it is! Get it on!
15)Lies - McFly - Whats happend to them? They brought out a free album and then they charge a tenner for it? One for the radio? Ok it was good not brilliant and then they bring out this and has been requested...erm... none funnily enough although it is rather catchy.
16) Boyfriend - Alphabeat - I was watching never mind buzzcocks with Steena from Alphabeat on it and this song is inspired by lesbianism, great! Nevertheless still a good tune very catchy and you will have it in your head for quite a while!
17)Mountains - Biffy Clyro - One of those rock bands and to be honest not really into them, not a band that you hear a lot of but when you talk to people about them they seem to know what they are on about and this is apparetly a good song? Just sounds like a normal rocky song to me.
18) I like you so much better when your naked - Ida Maria - Played to death on radio 1, this is a very good song but you have to really like it sort of along the lines of paramore meets kate nash? Not bad!
19) The world should revolve around me - Little Jackie - When I first heard this song on the radio I thought this is pleasant nice beat and a catchy chorus, got the tune and played it live and it has a bit of language it not effin and jeffin as such but if you look at the lyrics you will be rather suprised me thinks...
20) Cookie Jar - Gym Class Heroes - Remember them? They done cupids chokehold the remake of supertrams breakfast in america and they come back with this im not 100% into this sort of music but this is quite pleasant and it has a very big following!
21) Shes like a star - Taio Cruz - They could have chosen a better Taio Cruz song to put it on this one is just too repetitive if I would have compiled it then I would have put I can be, but yeah its listenable I think.
22) Love Shy (Thinking of you) - Platnum - These guys found fame when they collaborated with H20 to make 'Whats it gonna be?' and this song is on the same sort of lines, its quite catchy if your into that sort of music but yeah I like it.
*-*-* Price *-*-* Well dont worry this review is shortly coming to an end, we shall discuss price normally CDs around this you would expect it from around £15-£20, not this one though you can get it from places like amazon for a whopping £11.98!!!
*-*-* What do I think? *-*-* Being a DJ I had all of these songs previously! As I need them as and when they come out BUT they do have a good mix of whats come out in the last few months and as its coming up to the festive season where the goose is getting fat and kids are recieving now 71 in there stockings I think its a cracking album!
Nice one for checking out the review hope I enlightened some issues, Take Care,
Ste x
