I moved to the North Norfolk Port of Kings Lynn in 2001 from the South Coast as much because of its rural charm as the cost of living here was considerably cheaper than the south where I was born and grew up.
Everywhere you walk within Kings Lynn you are reminded of the former history that surrounds this former Hanseatic Port when it was used as a major port for shipping and receiving goods from Europe.
If arriving in the town by car you will pass through the South Gate, part of the original town fortifications which acted as a place of entry to the town and could be manned. Built in the 15th Century the stone structure immediately makes you aware of the importance that buildings such as this have on the town.

As someone who lives just outside Kings Lynn I thought it might be usefull to give the views of someone who is not just visiting on holiday. The town itself is small enough to walk round,which is just as well as the main streets are not open to cars. Tuesday is the main market day which is held in the Tuesday arket Place.Come to town early as car parking can be at a premium later in the day. The historic parts of the town are great and it is worth getting a guide book ( I have been here 2 years and have still not explored it all.Cultural events should be checked out at The Corn Exchange.The nightlife is a little rowdy at times but probablu no better or worse than most other towns. At the moment they are ripping down a large part of the Shopping Centre to re build it in new shiny glass and chrome , so a lot of the shops are closed or gone ...

, but that just seemed like a bit of a cop out. I really enjoy sleeping and having long lie-ins at the weekend. There is nothing better than lying in bed, with a book and a cup of tea, chilling out while the kids are downstairs stressing out my partner! Bliss!
