into a deeper coma of pretentious irrelevance by the minute, and Mick Jagger dedicating his life to the sale of Rolling Stones merchandise, it's good to see that Iggy Pop--rock & roll's original wild child--is still the consummate punk rocker. It's remarkable, also, though, that he's still alive--Nude and Rude... is surely testament to Iggy's iron constitution. A retrospective covering his career from The Stooges's eponymous 1969 debut through to 1990's Brick By Brick, Nude and Rude... can crudely be split into three parts. The Stooges' grimy "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "Search and Destroy" are magnificent howls of scuzz-rock, "Nightclubbing", "Lust For Life" and "The Passenger" are fruits of Iggy's dramatic rebirth in 1977, and, if the later work isn't as flattering to Iggy's legend, remember that it's still better than any of Reed, Bowie or Jagger's output at the turn of the century. --Louis Pattison

Album Notes: Personnel includes: Iggy Pop (vocals); David Bowie, Kate Pierson (background vocals).
Album Reviews: Q (12/96, p.159) - 4 Stars (out of 5) - "...kicks in with a glorious tryptych of primal Stooges punk--`I Wanna Be Your Dog,' `No Fun' and `Search And Destroy'--which, half a lifetime later, still sound gloriously snotty, sexed up and raucously energetic in a surprisingly sophisticated way..."
Advantages: Rocks on full of power and enthusiasm with witty lyrics Disadvantages: Lyrics might be a bit repetitive on some of the choruses.
...Skull Ring is one of the bestIggyPop albums in my opinion. It's amazing to think how old he was, when this album was made and to put so much energy and power into it is simply phenomenal. Every song on the album just bombs along with raw power! Superbabe, Motor Inn, Little Electric Chair and Nervous Exhaustion are just legendary anthems. This is probably Iggy's heaviest album ever and he pulls it off easily, some of the songs don't have the same effect live as on the album, they definitely did a good job on the recording of the songs.
If you just want one IggyPop album, I would choose this or Raw Power everytime but this shouldn't undermine his other albums which are also great fun....

Advantages: The cover artwork is excellent Disadvantages: The music is rubbish
...? No. Tonight, a duet by the Great Pair, is so bad even Westlife would turn it down.
ALERT ALERT ALERT*****1977 IggyPop castoff number 2 ahead***DB turns the IggyPop rocker Neighbourhood Threat into a bog standard track not even fit to be a B side. Fee fee fi fi fo fo fo fo indeed!
The best known track on here, the single Blue Jean, just about manages to pull it off. But don't expect this to be found on too many Greatest Hits collections.
Tumble and Twirl has the back up band at least having a go at a quite jolly little tune about the good people of Borneo. At least it's a little bit interesting to listen to.
Oh my gawd....I Keep Forgetting, I think this is a cover of some 50's song. "I keep forgetting you don't love me no more", sings Dave. More like I keep forgetting to put s**t songs like this onto my albums.
The dreadful...

Pop Not Pap Review ofRaw Power [Remastered] - Iggy & The Stoogesby
peppersinclaire
Advantages: Seminal Disadvantages: See text below
...Probably best known for his appearance on the Trainspotting soundtrack to non-fans of punk/glam/rock ‘n’ roll/whatever he is, IggyPop is my ideal pissed uncle. Rather than the hairy blob that is my real life “unc”, just imagine Xmas with Mr Pop round, spitting in the pretzels, wearing cellophane trousers and spilling vodka-laced urine into your grandmother’s mouth. It’s be a blast – not for granny, but WHO CARES? Punk/glam/rock ‘n’ roll/whatever this is was BUILT to annoy, and to entertain.
Raw Power is widely considered to be Iggy’s seminal release, along with his band The Stooges. This is actually their comeback (in 1973, date fans!) record, their first two releases selling worse than Ebola flavoured cola. Still, the not-really-anticipated record was beset by a further...
