Advantages: Great mix of songs Disadvantages: Not for everyone

The CD starts with Massachusette, followed by, World, Words, I've gotta get a message to you, I started a joke, Don't forget to remember, How can you mand a broken heart, Jive Talkin', You should be dancing, How deep is your love, Stayin' alive, Night fever, Too much heaven, Tragedy, More than a woman, Love you inside out, You win again, Man in the middle, Islands in the stream and finally ... ...covered with a stripey big number one. The back cover is again silver with a list of the songs and the information at the bottom to the copyright and the rights of manufacture.
When you lift the CD out of the case there is a lovely writing about the brothers and a mention of their great achievements in the music world. There is a booklet included which contains the credits and writing memtions about each song. Tim Rice has also written a few ... more

Having bought him a copy and had to listen to it in the car I have become quite a little fan of this album. The Bee Gees has given us 20 great songs from all times of the career. 19 of the 20 songs made it to the number one spot in the charts. The CD starts with Massachusette, followed by, World, Words, I've gotta get a message to you, I started a joke, Don't forget to remember, How can you mand a broken heart, Jive Talkin', You should be dancing, How deep is your love, Stayin' alive, Night fever, Too much heaven, Tragedy, More than a woman, Love you inside out, You win again, Man in the middle, Islands in the stream and finally Immortality. Track 18, Man in the Middle, has been put on as a special Maurice Gibb tribute Track which is great. I love the wide range of songs from the slow ballards to the great disco songs which I just cant help tapping my toe to in the car or dancing around the kitchen with the kids when playing it in the house. The CD cover is great with a silver background and the 3 faces of the brother being covered with a stripey big number one. The back cover is again silver with a list of the songs and the information at the bottom to the copyright and the rights of manufacture. This CD will not appeal to all as they have a very unique singing ability but if you like the Bee Gees then this is a must. ...bought the CD - BeeGees Number Ones, for Christmas, and after opening it I sat merrily reminiscing to all the songs.
As the title clearly states, these are number one hits for the BeeGees, and fan or not you'd be hard pressed not to remember any of the 20 tracks that feature on the CD. Straight from the off, you are greeted by the powerful ballad of "Massachusetts", eventually leading to "Words", a song possibly more memorable to some as sung by ... ...Golden Seventies Disco Classics that really get me dancing, and by now "You should be Dancing".

These songs are purely, unquestionably classics, thrust into that music hall of fame with a little help from that white suited, slick moving, young John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever".

Advantages: Known Songs for all to Sing -a- long Disadvantages: Cant shake that cheesy image!

Iv always had the attitude that the Bee Gees songs were great! But only when sung by other, more voaclly gifted artists! Much like Abba- their stuff was great when it was performed a few years ago by new younger, vocally gifted artists!
Anyway, most of the ... ...high pitched voices and chessy 70's disco lyrics, along with their bad taste in style. However their success is shown in the fact that most of the songs they have truned out have become timeless classics. As you have gathered the Bee Gee's are not my thing, however they have potentially 16 out of 20 good/listenable tracks on this compliation. While hardcore Bee Gees fans wanting a comprehensive anthology of the masterful pop trio's work will be happier with the generous two-disc THEIR GREATEST HITS: THE RECORD, anyone desirous of a concise thumbnail sketch of the group's output will be well served by NUMBER ONES. As indicated by the title, all the tracks here were No. 1 hits, from late-1960s ballads such as "World" and "Massachusetts" to '70s disco staples "Night Fever" and "Stayin' Alive," and beyond. Listening to some of the Gibb Brothers' early smashes, it's remarkable how they wedded such frothy pop melodies to such undeniably dark subjects; "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" is sung from the perspective of a murderer on death row, and "I Started a Joke" finds the narrator the subject of a cosmic joke whose punch line he delivers by dying. The Gibbs clearly lightened (and limbered) up a bit by the '70s, when soul and dance influences crept in ("Jive Talkin'," "You Should Be Dancing"), but never lost their knack for heavenly ballads ("How Deep Is Your Love," "Too Much Heaven"). Sadly, the one new song here ("Man in the Middle") is a tribute to Maurice Gibb, whose 2003 death caused the end of the group, but NUMBER ONES stands as a testament to the magic the three brothers made together.
