Werde immer in Erinnerung behalten, dass ich beim ersten Hören dieses Songs Tränen in den Augen hatte.
Ich kann verstehen, dass dieses Stück nicht jeden gleichermaßen berührt, aber die meisten wird es enorm bewegen - mit einem musikalischen Abgang, der einem den Atem raubt. Danach war ich nur noch am Luft holen; was soll ich noch dazu sagen?
Das Album blendet nun sanft über zu "Money", einem von Pink Floyds bekannteren Stücken. Diese Technik des langsamen Übergangs / Überblenden von einem Stück zum nächsten, war ein Vorgang, den Pink Floyd regelmäßig in ihren siebziger Jahre Alben verwendete, was damals ziemlich revolutionär war.

Advantages: gentle, breathatakingly beautiful Disadvantages: it's a bit short
...You should know what to expect when the first song is six and half minutes of beauty called "Lazy Calm". Arguably the most appropriately titled song ever, "Lazy Calm" begins with gentle washes of synth and guitar before being joined by a hazy distant saxophone. This goes on for a few minutes before a melody appears, underpinned by some reluctant beats as Elizabeth Fraser sings in that otherworldly voice of hers. For possibly the first time on a Cocteau Twins album it sounds like the words are in English, but you are still hard pressed to discern their meaning. But that doesn't matter.
"Lazy Calm" conjures up images of wide open fields, warm summer days, laying in the long grass under vast blue skies, listening to the birds and insects going about their day. It is both intensely calming and gently uplifting all at the same time and is...

...Like many others, I bought this album because of the single Creep. Although that song stood out, I found most of the others compelling as well. Incessant playing of Pablo Honey got me through the breakup of my first serious relationship, but when I moved out, I moved on and packed it away.
Fear and self-loathing
Yorke's lyrics are more intelligible on this album than on later ones. The bleakness and alienation that would come to fruition on OK Computer are foreshadowed not only by Creep, but by such songs as Prove Yourself (I can't afford to breathe in this time/Nowhere to sit without a gun in my hand/Hooked back up to the cathode ray/I'm better off dead) and I Can't (Please forget the words that I just blurted out/It wasn't me, it was my strange and creeping doubt).
