Oceanborn - Nightwish

Advantages: typical Nightwish, style; altogether, the CD is an ear feast & surely one the lovely song of Tarja in connection with the Drums, guitars and co. ., the best of the band;
Disadvantages: two titles meet my approval in comparison with the others of some

Oceanborn was Nightwish's second album, after a surprisingly good start with Angels Fall First, Nightwish decided to up the ante on this album, and put everything into it, and it really shows, the riffs are very technical with many solos, and the drumming is fast but very technical as well. Advantages: Great Opera Metal Type Metal , Very different in a good way
Disadvantages: Can get repetitive

Well, The second album from the lads, my second favourite, Wishmaster all the way. Anyway more about the album: 1.Stargazers - With some heavy drumming and guitar playing, it sets the album off to a great start, such a fast and nice beat song. 2.Gethsemane - Wow, how do they people play these beats and tunes. It's out of this world. The woman with the opera style lyrics goes with it well. 3.Devil And The Deep Dark Ocean - Fast Start and Beat. ...

...in my pocket…and then the cover for Oceanborn caught my eye. Literally, it was the cover that sold it to me; that beautiful fantasy-style artwork. HMV had two Nightwish albums, this and Century Child, and the covers were so beautiful I had to check them out. I looked to the back and - imagine my surprise - when the list of instruments and band members were presented. Pianos? Synthesisers? A female vocalist?…In a 'heavy metal' CD? I was intrigued, so snapped them both up. And the second I popped them into my CD player realised this was quite possibly the best impulse buy I'd ever made. Advantages: Beautiful, haunting, clever lyrics
Disadvantages: Not for everyone

...I came across Nightwish when I was in Finland and they destroyed my assumptions about Metal music. Their CDs are firmly in the metal section of the shops, but they have strong melodies and some beautiful and thought-provoking lyrics. Though the beat of the music is strong, it doesn't drown out the vocals. Indeed, many of their songs include sections of incredibly moving poetry, spoken while the takes on a softer tone. They are a Finnish band, but the lyrics of their songs are in English. This is, for me at least, a huge plus point. I think vocals are the key point to a song and I like to be able to understand what I'm listening to. The words are beautiful and often clever, and all the more to be praised given that these people speak English as a second or third language. ...Nightwish are a band from Finland, they formed in 1996, and their style can be best described as heavy metal with female vocals, or power metal, their music contains many elements of classical and opera. Wishmaster was Nightwish's third album, the band themselves weren't sure if they could produce an album better than Oceanborn, they said that they put everything into Oceanborn and wasn't sure if they could top, but with this album they have managed. I haven't talked about lyrics in my two previous Nightwish reviews, but they are more prominent and memorable in this album.
