Mellow Rod at his best
Review of Reason To Believe - Rod Stewart by zoeeve302

Advantages: Mellow Rod at his best
Disadvantages: You may cry

...This is a compilation album from 1999 of some really mellow Rod tracks. Demonstrating Rods unique singing voice that is racked with emoutions these songs are a little move away from the rockier songs of the faces days. It is an album that is great for relaxing too and in truth a great sing along too! It has all the classics for someone who is looking for a rod album Maggie May and You wear it well and some covers of some classic tracks. Hand Bags and Glad Rags - The theme to Ricky Gervais' "The Office" In case you didn't know it is a song to a young girl who cares about nothing but her looks and attention she gets and asks what is she going to do when all the clothes are out of fashion. An oldie but goodie. Man of Contant Sorrow - This song was covered in the Cohen brothers film "Oh Brother where art thou". This is a much slower... Read review

A value for money, thrilling double album
Review of Off The Wall/Thriller - Michael Jackson by Mel27

Advantages: Cheap to buy, good mix of music
Disadvantages: Some of the interviews are not very interesting

...the perils of never seeing your partner due to one of you working too hard. "You say that working, is what a man's supposed to do..." 4. Get On The Floor This is a typical 1970s dance track, which sounds a little dated now. References to "shaking your thing" sound quite silly today! 5. Off The Wall The title track off this album is another Rod Temperton song (he also wrote "Rock With You" and "Thriller"). It's a song to blow the cobwebs away after a hard working week. "Life ain't so bad at all". 6. Girlfriend This rather cheesy song was originally written for MJ by Paul McCartney but it eventually went on to Paul's "London Town" album instead and then MJ later covered it for this album. The man is trying to persuade the woman he's having an affair with to leave her boyfriend. It's not a bad little pop song but it seems childish... Read review

Aging Celebrity Or Classic Rock Star?
Review of Gasoline Alley [Remastered] - Rod Stewart by the_mad_cabbie

Advantages: Fantastic rock/country/folk album. Stewart's unique voice.
Disadvantages: Not a thing!

...~ ~ Most youngsters these days probably have an image in their heads of Rod Stewart as a fast aging former rock star with a penchant and taste for younger women. (Usually blonds!) In fairness, Stewart himself doesn’t do a hell of a lot to dispel this image, so perchance it’s an accurate one. But back in the day (late 60’s and early 70’s) Rod Stewart was the ultimate rock star, and right up there with the all-time greats. (Like the Rolling Stones) During this early period he had an ability to turn out albums that to this day remain classics; mixtures of folk and rock and some haunting ballads that were/are almost unique in their style and presentation, and which have stood the test of time. (Unlike some of the music from his glam/rock period of the 1980’s) ~ ~ In 1970 he released an album called “Gasoline Alley” which included a number... Read review
