Ode to joy was written by one of the worlds most renounced composers - Beethoven. This is in my opinion the best of beethoven's symphonies.

Nana Mouskouri's voice is a bit like Marmite--you either love it or you hate it. Ode To ... more
Joy, her latest release on the Philips label is a 20-track compilation disc with a strong emphasis on classical music. (The sleevenote biography suggests that Mouskouri might have pursued a career as a classical singer following her studies at Athens Conservatory.) There are sacred favourites (Franck's "Panis Angelicus" and the Bach/Gounod Ave Maria) and operatic extracts ("Casta Diva" from Bellini's Norma and the rousing slaves' chorus from Verdi's Nabucco) as well as arrangements of instrumental pieces including Handel's Sarabande, the second movement of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez and the Adagio for Organ and Strings by Albinoni. On the lighter side, there's the stirring "Con te partiro", "Love Changes Everything" and "The Windmills of Your Mind" as well as traditional folk songs including "She Moved Through the Fair", "Blow the Wind Southerly" and the Welsh lullaby "Suo Gân". Apparently, one in 30 of the world's population owns a Nana Mouskouri album. Perhaps the other 29 dislike her breathy, unsupported sound, but all credit to the Greek songstress for her long and successful career. --Rebecca Agnew

Advantages: The music, the chorus, the memorable melody Disadvantages: None
of diferent entries as in a fugue, as more and more instruments join with their particular qualities a joyfull interaction and socialisation occurs, indicating the coming of life on the newly created world.
3rd Movement Adagio Molto E Cantabile
This slow movement is lyrical and tranquil as order develops from the chaos of creation.
The 4th Movement Presto and the 5th Movement Allegro Assai, combine to make the finale. This part of the symphony is based on the poem by Schiller (An Die Freude) OdeToJoy. Beethoven combines choral with orchestral music, hence the colloquial name for this symphony (Beethoven?s Choral Symphony). The theme of joy is first herd from the orchestra and the cello?s and double basses alone, they are then joined by the entire orchestra, a bass voice proclaims ?O friends, not such sounds as these; let us strike up ...
Advantages: All the hits and some of the bands finest work Disadvantages: Compared to CD1, CD2 just don't cut it!
Rainbow are a classic rock band formed from the fragmented sections of Deep Purple by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Taking bassist Roger Glover and incorporating the dwarf-like Ronnie James Dio on vocals he crafted a group that, while churning out traditional and anthemic rock songs, also dabbled in classical music - check out 'Difficult to Cure' which is just Beethovens 'OdetoJoy' with more balls. Unfortunately, and I hate to say this because Rainbow were a fantastic band with an immensely gifted guitarist, their musical output, which often excelled with tracks like 'Stargazer' and 'Kill the King', tended to lose its edge and become a very thin, watered down american version towards the end of the bands life. In fact, if you were to listen to the 'Catch the Rainbow' collection in its entirety you would hear the brilliance of their ...
It?s soul. No, it?s jazz. Hang on, there?s some funk in here. I can?t decide what this album is, but I don?t care because frankly, it?s fantastic. This has quickly become one of my favourite albums of all time. The Urban Hang Suite is an odeto the joys of midnight love, but don?t let that put you off. Every single track is achingly beautiful and Maxwell?s voice is to die for ? think Lenny Kravitz?s vocals, except sweeter and smoother. From the opening beats of The Urban Theme, to the closing fadeout of The Suite Theme I was completely hooked, and if you want any evidence of Maxwell?s talent, check out his cover of Kate Bush?s Whenever Wherever Whatever. I have never heard a cover so innovative or so well done. ...
