...Cousin Hebe.
Sir Joseph is in love with Josephine – the daughter of Captain Corcoran; the Captain of “HMS Pinafore”. Unfortunately Josephine is in love with Ralph (pronounced Raiffe) Rackstraw – one of the ratings on the boat – and he with her. Sir Joseph is determined to use his visit to the ship to press his suit. The ranking order is that an Admiral would not consider looking at a Captain’s daughter but at the same time a Captain’s daughter could not consider a lowly rating. In a series of comic conversations, duets and trios, Sir Joseph persuades Josephine that ‘Love can level ranks and therefore…”; only confirming Ralph’s suit.
Mrs Cripps (Little Buttercup – a woman who sells goods to the ships off a barrow) then befuddles the situation further by confessing that when she was younger she fostered babies. At one time she got two...

hms pinafore Review ofSullivan: HMS Pinafore; Trial by Juryby
iamatciao
Advantages: quality Disadvantages: none
...This is one of the best Gilbert and Sullivan light operas that I have listened to (or performed in). It is about a Lass (Josephine) who loved a foremast hand (common sailor) (Ralph), but Josephine can’t marry him because she is a daughter of the Captain of HMS Pinafore (Captain Corcorran). Because Josephine is the Captain’s daughter she is of a higher social class than Ralph is, also she is supposed to be getting married to the ruler of the Queen’s Navy (Rt. Honourable Sir Joseph Porter). This leaves Josephine and Ralph in a bit of a mess, so they are going to sneak off and get married together that night. But at this time the Captain is also in love with a Portsmouth Bum boat woman (Buttercup), but he can’t let other people know because he is against Josephine having a relationship with Ralph. But in the end Buttercup lets every...

Advantages: A brilliant song, and a top class video Disadvantages: All her other songs will be judged against this
...The first time i heard this song i knew it was going straight in at number one. Baby one more time isn't your average number one song, oh no. It's one of those songs that your kids will know of in twenty or even thirty years time.
It was the biggest selling song of the year and it's easy to see why. I, as you might have guessed, am obsessed with Britney Jean Spears, herself and her music. Despite my bias towards each one of her songs, everybody i speak to about Baby one more time is in total agreement with me when i say it's a classic! If you havent heard this song then oh my God, you're missing out! Get yourself logged on to a decent internet site and order it, NOW!...
