Wake up to Awake. The DT train keeps rolling
Review of Awake - Dream Theater by  SenCee

Advantages: Mind Bashing, Briliant, Intense
Disadvantages: Not quiet as good as Images and Words

...Awake really does pick up where Image and Words left off. Awake is the 3rd Studio album from the "without doubt" daddy's of progressive rock / metal. Dream Theater's early years, "when dream and day unite", "images and words", and this, "Awake" manage to d something that I have never heard form a bands before. They not only please, but can convert people. It has a draw to metal heads, yet also to people who are more attached to Clapton and Extreme. It can draw the rock funk fans, and even some nu metallers. Its all there....the melodies, the tunes, the heaviness, the lightness, the riffs, licks, jams, instrumentals. It's all brilliant Awake has alot more of a seasoned, intense emotion than that shown in Images and Words. The heavy melody musician ship and inginious lyrics are blasted through in the form of Lie, 6 O Clock (6... Read review

I'm awake and I'm loving it!
Review of Awake [ECD] [PA] - Godsmack by  feitiuk

Advantages: Heavy, aggressive and catchy music
Disadvantages: Not as good as the first

...I've been a fan of Godsmack ever since hearing the song 'Moonbaby' from their first self titled album. I've always been attracted to their aggressive yet simple and catchy sound and bold vocals. 'Awake' certainly wasn't a let down. The album kicks off with 'Sick of Life' which is an awesome display of Godsmack's typical aggression and power. The next songs 'Awake' and 'Greed' blend together into a swirl of Godsmack's jackhammer guitar riffs... pure magic. The album then takes a trip into more deep and dirty territory with the songs 'Mistakes' and 'Trippin' where lead vocalist Sully Erna cries out his angst-driven lyrics. Other songs worth of note are 'Spiral' and 'Forgive Me' which shows the more mysterious side to Godsmack. 1. Sick of Life (3:52) 2. Awake (5:04) Probably the best track on the album. Drops you straight... Read review

Godsmack - Awake. Why you should get this album?
Review of Awake [ECD] [PA] - Godsmack by  everlongrun

Advantages: One of the few bands which show their roots. Ability to combine tribal music styles with heavy metal.
Disadvantages: No acoustic songs.

...Awake is Godsmacks second album and has many expectations thanks to the quality of the first. Many people enjoy particular bands because they can easily see them evolve with every album: however this album is more different from the first. Initial listening shows that this album is much darker than the first. The influences are still obviously tribal and voodoo blended with their slower version of heavy metal. It is an unlikely combination though it is an exoerience worth tasteing. The musis peices are mostly very simple though hold a good momentum; easily noticed that they concentrate on the sound rather than complexity (what sounds good is just what is needed). Considering this the music is not simple with appreciation to the lead guitarist Tony Rombola; the solo's on almost every song has got to be the biggest omprovement from... Read review
