this is basically a solo album from Young Fresh Fellows guitarist/vocalist Scott McCaughey. After all, McCaughey wrote most of the songs and it is certainly his clever wit and eclectic musical taste that makeOld Liquidatorso remarkable. Skipping from acoustic folksy/country ballads to distorted skronk-rock, The Minus 5 inhale their influences like so many tokes on a big fatty and exhale a dozen resin-coated tracks.Cough, cough.Old Liquidator's great songs are made great by the informal nature of their presentation. It's not so much the type of instruments that are used that are particularly odd (banjo, violin, piano, organ, horns, etc.), but the way they accompany the bass, guitar, and occasional drums is often, um, unconventional. It's as though someone said, "Hey wouldn't it be funny if we put some squawking violin or blasting horns here?" and then they did.The biggest assets in this wacky melange of sound and style are McCaughey's clever lyrics and his flair for adopting a different persona in each of the 12 songs. From the Tom Petty rock drawl of "Emperer of the Bathroom" to the depressing confessional tone of "Vulture," where he moans, "My eyes are like egg yolks, give 'em a poke," McCaughey leads The Minus 5 through the absurd and bizarre with panache. What's more,Old Liquidatornever once sounds like The Posies, R.E.M., or The Walkabouts, and considering the backgrounds of the other musicians involved-- hint, hint--that's pretty remarkable.--Adem Tepedelen
Advantages: Shows Owen play a different kind of character well, interesting basic story, pretty good cast Disadvantages: A little slow in parts,
...particularly new now either, having been made in 1999, but its still worth a watch. I wouldn't say that its particularly blockbuster material, no major special effects or anything but as a basic psychological drama/thriller that gets you thinking, its pretty decent... definately worth a watch if it ever comes on TV or if your interested then sure, get the DVD. If there were any criticisms to be made then I would say that perhaps the story is a little slow and without Owen and the characters of the detectives (Haysbert and Yokam), it wouldn't really be much good at all but they pull it off well enough. The movie is based on a novel by Lew McCreary and it was written for the screen and directed by Hampton Fancher (the co-writer of Blade Runner, this was his directorial debut), the movie was also shown at the Sundance festival.
All in all, in my...

Advantages: Hip Hop remixes are all bangers Disadvantages: Electronica tracks are terrible
.... "Makes Me Wonder" (feat. Just Blaze)
Blaze completely transforms this song in a completely unpredicted manner as it a track which I liked by them as it had them take on elements of Funk rock, but by slowing it down, and putting it on Metal guitar riff, as well as hard Hip Hop drumming takes it in a differnt direction which I thoughroughly enjoyed.
**Five Stars**
5. "This Love" (feat. Tricky Stewart)
This track was the one which got Maroon 5 up in the music world, and to celebrate this, the man known to work with The-Dream frequently, ricky Stewert, comes with a track whihc takes on lots of Electronic techniques, whislt manintaing the main structure of the song. I wasn't too fond of the excessive amount of sound effects added to the cut, but its still alright as a track.
**Three Stars**
6. "She Will Be Loved" (feat. Pharrell...
