The big number three hit Lucky Stars featuring Denise Marsa is included, as well as minor (but should have been big) hit Lydia, and the ones that should have been hits Woman Of Mine, Aerial and Well Well Said The Rocking Chair. What have your experiences with budget priced compilation boxsets been like? Mine have been hit and miss but I believe the 100 Hits series, currently found in most supermarkets, WH Smith, music retailers and online naturally is a goldmine series bringing together the well known classics with quite a few of those tracks that rarely get tracklisted elsewhere on 5 discs, all for the average price of £6.99-7.99 ... ...The main review.
100 Hits 70s was the first in the series I purchased and I can safely say the compilers know their music and have done a fantastic job in highlighting most of the music styles that pervaded throughout the UK charts during the decade. For the 70s fan wishing to reminisce or the music lover looking to expand their collection, this boxset is ideal. However, for those who view 70s music as simply disco, ABBA, Queen and Status ...

This album is marketed as being great for parties and some of the tracks are typical 1970s dance-floor fillers. However, some of the songs are not the best choices that could have been made.
The first track is "You Sexy Thing " by Hot Chocolate. Everyone knows this and it's a great opener. Just make sure nobody tries to strip off!
Following on from this is "More Than A Woman" by Tavares. Ah, a track from "Saturday Night Fever". What 1970s compilation ... ...is "That's The Way (I Like It) by KC & The Sunshine Band. Not as good as "Give It Up", which I think just squeezed into the back end of the 1970s but still a decent party tune.
"Movin'" by Bass Construction and "Nut Bush City Limits" by Ike and Tina Turner are next - again, not bad tracks for this kind of album.
The hilarious "Tiger Feet" by Mud is next but the awful "My Sharona" by The Knack spoils things. "You make my motor run"?! Ugh, please! ...

This compilation is great. There is not one song on it that I do not know.
Blondie was one of my favourite groups when I was growing up and I still love listening to them.
Steve Harley's Make me smile is one of my all time favourite songs. You can play this cd and you are guaranteed that at least one will appeal to everyone. There are love songs for the romantics,
rock songs like Devil Gate Drive by suzi quatro for the rebels, and
boogie songs ...

...on soul music. A String of Pearls Going back to my dad’s old Sanyo radio cassette recorder there was a song which was oft played by myself back in 1974 called “Guilty”. Performed by the Pearls I loved it and have vague recollections of a Top of the Pops performance which incorporated judges’ wigs. I have hunted high and low for this clip on the internet and sadly can only conclude it was wiped, as so many “Top of the Pops” episodes were prior ... ...that their compilation CD “A String of Pearls” had to be worth a punt if only to reminisce about my childhood. The album has 24 tracks, including all singles and B-sides the girls recorded. To the best of my knowledge the Pearls never released an album in the seventies so there are no obvious “album tracks” but there are several curiosities if you are familiar with music from the early 1970s.
