Advantages: Great dubby sounds Disadvantages: some tracks are a bit weak
BOX OF DUB-Variousartists is a showcase of tracks taken from the new popular Dubstep-future garage genre. This record covers the dubbier side of the scene with names such as 'Skream, Digital mystiks, Scuba, etc) . The tracks are original, with some bordering on strange (Digital Mystikz 'Guilty' is an example). Overall the quality is very high and rather enjoyable. The record kicks off with Digital Mystikz 'I wait' which is a lovely stripped down Dubstep drum workout with minimal synths and subs. skream shines on this record and features on two tracks. The first is 'Sub Island', a detailed drum workout over minimal but heavy sub bass and an even more minimal pad sound which suggests the tropical island feel. Skream's other track is a well known dubby jump up number which has featured on underground radio and is a sure hit. Other tracks ...
Advantages: Good selection of skream tracks Disadvantages: the frequencies tend to stay in the same conceptual space too often
This mix is quite a hefty run through of all the big tracks of 2007 in the world of Dub-step (which is a relatively new but ever-increasingly popular music genre). The sound is from London and the UK (which is where most of the producers on the mix come from. The tracks are based upon what DJ Skream likes personally and what he plays at DJ sets (or was in the 2007-2008 period).
Kulture kicks off the mix with a reggae infuse synth bassline rizing track which gets the energy levels pumping straight from the outset (interesting way to start a mix!) Next is a track from Skream himself which was popular one on pirate radio and in D clubs 'wobble that gut' with minimal progressive beats and bass-lines. Next is another skream track of a remix of a garage track by dj zinc. Its got bass technical-wobbles and a sick vocal (cool). Then its Skream ...
Advantages: Songs, mix/range of artists Disadvantages: None
a party. The songs are amazing. You have LMC vs U2 with "Take Me To The Clouds Above". I don't know how to define this song, it's not overdone with synthesizers and effects. You have Ultrabeat's uplifting track "Feelin' Fine", Motorcycle's "As The Rush Comes"(quite a moody and dark tune), Lasgo's "Surrender", Kelly Llorenna's powerful vocals on "This Time I Know It's For Real", Northern Heightz's dancefloor hit "Look At Us", Despina Vandi's sensational and rhythmic "Gia", Tiësto's "Traffic" and Tube & Berger and Chrissie Hynde's collaboration on "Straight Ahead". I believe they've got the right mix of artists on here, providing a variety of styles within the "dance" genre. As always, there are some naff tracks on here from one hit wonders or people you've never heard of, but the balance of these and all the artists & songs listed above makes up ...
