Favourite song ever?

Layla comes close, so does "Wonderful tonight"

Clapton is amazing, folk, country, rock, blues and well, just about any rift you can think of, he nails it better than a butcher with a rabbit and no lettuce left.

On tour with Eric Clapton and Delaney & Bonney is a weird mixture of amazing guitar and powerful vocals, I agree but where does it make its impression in an already over rated guitar twanging, plectrum pluckitty plucking finger strumming rock and roll music.

Clapton nails everything he plays and this time he experiments with some amazing sounds. Now, the clue to the date this was made is a simple mathematical equation, it has 8 tracks. Remember those famous Video size cartridges that plugged into your whole dashboard? Yeah, of course you can't but I can.

Delaney & Bonney were short lived R&B singers, many attributed their style to gospel and roots music but really, look up their biography and see that they were just session singers with a following that died with the seventies but now and again they pop up with some session guitarist (Gasp, Clapton!) or through someone like Sonny and Cher.

This album is not so much about Clapton as the various different rifts the whole backing band created to highlighted the immense singing voices and vocal partnership of D&B, and their Southern style of twangy interlinking rhapsody. This album is not unique nor are the vocals any different to any other decent 60,s/70's folk singers but Clapton enjoyed his freedom here, strutting his own style and often taking the song away from the vocalist's and making the rhythm is own, a style he used often when he made the guitar sing.

A couple of tracks here are worth modern airing but not so much for their vocals, more the ingenuity they succumb to when Eric lets loose and becomes the thinking womans Hendrix, eloping with the song and leaving the vocalists to wonder how they can accompany a guitarist who can barely keep up with his own credible strumming.

This is not the best Clapton 8 track or CD by a long shot, in fact it is a cash in on his name and the 8 tracks are very "root" rock, the Little Richard medley its self is worth listening to but more often than not you are trying to hear Clapton over the vocals.

Like Delaney & Bonney? Get their greatest hits, not this. Like Clapton in his raw Creamy days? Get it, listen to it and then put it a way for a while.

Not his best but hints of what was to come.
