Advantages: A fresh angle on an old legend, brilliant story Disadvantages: i know i always say this, but there are no disadvantages to this book
Introduction.
It's not easy to keep away from the stereotypical view of the werewolf legend, but Kelley Armstrong succeeds brilliantly in her debut novel, Bitten. The Ontario (Canada) based mother of three admits that attempting to publish a novel about werewolves was pretty risky, as she didn't believe she would get noticed unless she went 'mainstream'. The only problem was she enjoyed this kind of writing.
Why werewolves? Armstrong tells of watching an episode of the "X-Files" in which a werewolf was involved, in the archetypal half man, half wolf "Hollywood" version of the myth. Whereas all the legends depict a man (or a woman) turning into a full-fledged wolf, Hollywood makes this hybrid which, come on, lets face it, neither acts OR looks like a wolf.
