I first heard Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova on Jools Holland one evening. They performed 'Falling Slowly' from the film 'Once'. I've rarely been as touched by a piece of music as i was by that performance. The lyrics were simple but cut deep. The song really moved me and by the end of it i found there were tears running down my cheeks. After that, i went out and bought the album. I had to have it. All of the tracks are beautiful and they really spoke to me. They are full of emotion with beautiful melodies. Irglova has a particularly haunting quality to her voice. especially heard in the song 'The Hill'. Hansard has a rawness to his voice that makes the passion in the songs so real and so believable. I can hear his pain and his emotions and his music helps me make sense of mine. I recommended the album to my boyfriend and he donloaded it and i just watched his reaction to hearing the music, particularly the song 'Leave' and i could see that it had touched him and affected him as much as it had affected me. His only response was 'Wow!'. I'm going to Dublin in the Summer to see them live and i cannot wait. The music is brilliant as a recording but seeing it performed live will really be something special. I would recommend this album to anyone who looks to music as an outlet of emotions and loves to find songs they can relate to that can help them make sense of events in their lives, 'Once' will move you in incredible ways.
