Once In A Lifetime - Dick Haymes

Advantages: Beautiful, romantic voice and songs

...decided to check on Amazon to see if they had any CD’s of his. I was actually surprised by the amount, but decided that I would treat myself to this 4 CD set: The Golden Years of Dick Haymes (Let the Rest of the World Go By). The ‘Golden Years’ for Haymes have to be the 1940’s and, although that seems a lifetime away, most of the songs on these discs will be very familiar. Now, I will start by saying that I have absolutely NO intention of listing the hundred and one songs here, but you will have to forgive me for mentioning a few of my favourites – not easy as I love so many of them! Disc One: This starts with “I’ll Get By” – quite well known? ...Most Greatest Hits albums really should be 'Once in a Lifetime', and Texas' really is great. However, if they continue to produce the high quality music of the past few years, then they should be going from strength to strength. 'The Greatest Hits' is an album packed with the recent successes... play it to a friend who thinks they don't know anything but 'Once in a Life time' and you'll soon find they keep on going 'I didn't know that they did this...' and 'Ahh...'. But the sheer quality of this album is in the succession of decent music that keeps flooding out of the speakers. I wasn't Texas' greatest fan before buying this, in fact, it was on an offer from a website that I managed to get the album for a fiver that persuaded me to buy it. Advantages: Original and fresh, even after 15 years

...I have always enjoyed Talking Heads music, but had never got around to making a little collection of records..until the New Year Sale at HMV where I found The Best of Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime for a tenner and a bargain it was too! Not only did it have some of the all-time classic 'Heads tracks like Road to Nowhere, And She Was and Wild Wild Life, but also a host of other tracks that I had never heard before like Psychokiller and their version of Take Me To The River which is now my favourite version! Other notables on the album are Burning Down The House, Sax and Violins and the timeless Once In A Lifetime. The one thing about Talking Heads is their style..like no other.
