Here’s a shocking statement for you…….Alter Bridge, a band containing three ex-members of everyone’s buddies Creed, have produced an album, ‘One Day Remains’, that ranks up there with the best - the guitar work from Tremonti is nothing short of exceptional, the drumming is solid in the majority, and the addition of Myles Kennedy on vocals is an absolute godsend……..there, got that out of the way.
It’s easy to look back to the days of Creed, with their weathered ‘hits’ infecting peoples minds in a less than pleasing manner, but Alter Bridge offer so much more, both musically and without doubt, vocally. Myles Kennedy (former Mayfield Four vocalist) has a range that Creed’s ‘lodger’ Scott Stapp could only wish for…. whilst Kennedy isn’t as inclined to shove his head up his ass in the process. It’s down to Stapp, a man that simply became fed up with his fellow band mates, that Creed disbanded in 2003 - giving guitarist Mark Tremonti and drummer Scott Phillips an opportunity to take their talent in a somewhat new direction, a direction that featured the hiring of yet another former Creed member, bass player Brian Marshall. Together, the trio set about finding a front man that would do their abilities justice, a front man that they could trust to stick with the business in hand, and they found that in the shape of the superb Myles Kennedy - easily one of the best voices in rock music today. The bands ‘no shit’ attitude has reinvigorated the ex-members of ‘that Christian band’, and lent to what is easily, hit for hit, one of the strongest albums of the new millennium.
At times the music is simply blistering. The connection between Tremonti and Phillips, although a worn one, has never sounded fresher than on the likes of ‘Metalingus’ and ‘One Day Remains’, two of the albums finest moments. Whereas it’s usually the vocalist that ‘owns’ the record, One Day Remains comes across as something of a tool for Mark Tremonti, an opportunity to further his scope and show the world what a damn fine guitarist he is, and boy….is he - and also take nothing away from the drumming qualities of Phillips, cause’ boy can he play. Lead single ‘Open Your Eyes’, probably the most Creed-sounding song on the album, is a decent introduction as to what the band can do, but it’s not the best. Their ballads do smack of Creed-isms (not doing very well with these terms am I), with ‘In Loving Memory’ holding a lot of the same attraction that Creed’s ‘Arms Wide Open’ had in 2001 - but in large, the record holds few similarities to the band members pasts. Kennedy, former front man to the band Mayfield Four, brings an instant invigoration to the band, adding in the passion that Creed so lost through Stapp’s childish behaviour in the latter years - and Stapp’s a man that Tremonti and Co have no intention of referring to anytime soon.
The one thing I will stress, is that you listen to this with an open mind… i.e. give them a chance, as I did. Yes, I’m open to admittance that Creed were nothing short of appalling, but Alter Bridge, with Tremonti, Phillips and Kennedy, are one of the finest bands playing the circuit at the minute….and ‘One Day Remains’ is a desperately under-rated release. One thing that becomes blatantly obvious is that this is nothing more than personal progression for Tremonti, a man that would easily front another band given the opportunity, but here’s hoping he has the grace not to leave his now band mates high and dry as Stapp had previously done. What makes Alter Bridge so strong is the link that the band members have with each other- the chemistry between Tremonti, Phillips and Brian Marshall is a tried and tested formula, whilst Kennedy slips right into Stapp’s shoes with ease. The problem for the band (and the album in general), is that other than the amazing ‘Down To My Last’, the ballads offer little differentiation on what Creed had previously released, something that I’m sure they wish to move away from as soon as is possible.
Comparisons toward other supposed ‘super groups’ (Velvet Revolver, Audioslave) are almost impossible to steer clear of, in that this is a collaboration of sorts - but a mighty fine one at that. I’m not going to stress how good ‘One Day Remains’ is when placed aside Contraband (VR’s debut release) because I am a fan of both, and have a liking toward both releases - oh come on, Alter Bridge blow Velvet Revolver out of the water (there, said it). When you have the steady base that Tremonti and Co already provided, the task of finding a lead singer toward your liking is a relatively easy one - but I can’t make clear just how good Kennedy is when compared with Scott Stapp, on every level. Alter Bridge do little to break the set mould for modern bands, but they certainly take it in a more positive direction - never have I seen more guitar solos in what is in large considered to be a relatively ‘modern’ rock album - but it’s a pleasing change from the endless line of bands currently taking over the mainstream.
They’re far from groundbreaking, in that it’s a sound heard many a time before, but when considered what’s come previously (i.e. Creed), it’s a pleasure to hear a straight rock album that genuinely rocks, whilst showing off just how ‘truly’ gifted the band members are, Tremonti in particular. Song for song, the album is flawless in the case of providing listenable tracks, although I wouldn’t class all as ‘outstanding’ - with the ballads wearing slightly thin toward the end. The band prosper when they rock, simple as that - Metalingus, Open Your Eyes and Broken Wings are prime examples of what a good racket can produce - put the effort in and you get the results, and that’s the case with Alter Bridge. After years of strained relations between the members of Creed (or should that be Stapp v the rest), Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall have found their calling in the shape of Myles Kennedy and Alter Bridge - a project that can only look upwards and onwards from this fine debut release, which incidentally has already been certified platinum in America….
In terms of tracks to ignore, the album offers little - every song gives something to the listener, whether it be a superb solo, a drum beating like no other, or just the beautiful vocals of Kennedy - Creed’s successors offer it all up on ‘One Day Remains’ - one of the finest albums of the new millennium.

...great to be the first one in a group to own a legendary album and to say to them 'hey guys you should buy this'. Alter Bridge is definitely one I would recommend to absolutely anyone who likes rock music/guitar music/music in general. A friend got me into Alter Bridge when he lent me the CD and when I first heard it I was like OK its quite good and I wasn't overly-impressed but after a few listens I was loving every part of it.
Another good thing ... ...as Alter bridge have only one album and it is a staggeringly good album they deserve lots of detail. I find it useful to look at the lyrics when listening to songs for the first time to appreciate what the songs are about which is why I have provided the links for the full lyrics. If you buy this album you will not be disappointed in the slightest it is one of the best hard rock albums to come out of 2004! Please anyone reading this review I know ...

Advantages: A whole range of diverse and brilliant rock albums Disadvantages: Some of the tracks are perhaps a tad too similar
...of a persons day.
One of the most amazing things about the band is lead singer Myles Kennedy (formerly of Mayfield Fours) voice; powerful yet extremely tender, his singing helps you to focus on the place where main song writer, guitarist Mark Tremonti, was when creating lyrics for each track. Myles has an incredible way of channelling these thoughts to really reach out to the listener.
I should also point out that while three of the band members ... ...And I - for one - can totally see the difference.
Track 1: Find The Real (4.43 minutes)
Starting the album off in style, 'Find The Real' is a song of hope through desperation. With everything kicking off with a blaze of guitars and drums, Myles' voice helps to add to that, rather than breaking it down. This song reminds me a lot of someone talking to themselves; it may not make too much sense if you only listen to part of it.

Advantages: A stupendous debut album from a seriously good band Disadvantages: No weasel was included with this album. Thought that might have added an extra edge, but obviously the people of the bridge did not think so:( seriously i can't really pick faults with this album
...to the album itself...
One day remains is certainly an album I would listen to if I only had one day remaining. Its filled to the brim with tracks for all occasions. The album opener Find the Real is one of the heavier on the album, hitting you straight away with its crash happy drums lines and almost swaggering guitar riffs. This is a superb track which signals the start of something great. As we continue down the list we soon come to the third ... ...even killer shep would enjoy. One which especially stands out to me is In Loving Memory, proving that Alter Bridge are not just all about ball crushing rock. This mellow number could bring tears to even the most drunken of of you metalers out there. The lyrics are pretty damn good, only matched by the melody of Tremontis guitar and Kennedies vocals. This song really develops as it goes on, rather like a painter painting a painting. This was the first ...

Track 5 "Metalingus" was used in wrestling promotion WWE as the theme for rising star "Edge". Which is a pretty heavy rock song as are most of the tracks on this album. This is also one of my favourite tracks on the CD. You will actually notice that ... ...course alot better. Also not all are heavy rock as they have included some pretty cool soft rock. The other songs i reccomend are Find The Real, Open Your Eyes, Burn It Down and Broken Wings. If you like bands like Nickelback, Hoobastank and even (WWE Star Chris Jericho's Band) Fozzy then im sure you will need this album.
Can usually be found for about £10 - 15 but the best price i found was on amazon.co.uk

Advantages: excellent riffs from Tremonti Disadvantages: .......may not appeal to everyone
Mark tremonti was a guy i had never heard of before, until a friend mentioned Creed, and the new band he was in called Alter Bridge. As i liked Creed i didnt hesistate to check out this new band. Anyway if you cant be bothered to read the whole review just go to alterbridge.com and listen for yourself. With mindblowing riffs, along with rapid drumming and vocals which match perfectly, i am amazed why Alter Bridge are literally unheard of. My favourite ... ...beats and great vocals. The Album is made even better by the fact that the songs have meaning, as for example Tremonti wrote the song shed my skin, as it reflects on how he felt when his mother passed away. This album alone has made me an alter bridge fan and i am going to see them in concert in 1 month 9 days. Buy the album ...

Advantages: Consistently brilliant tracks Disadvantages: Might be too much the same to some people
AlterBridge's first album, the phenomenal 'OneDayRemains', will go down in history as one of my favourite debut albums. The extremely bold mix of beautiful, heart felt lyrics and fabulous, hard hitting drum beats with screeching guitar riffs really struck a chord with me (ha ha, pun intended!) and it seems that I will never tire of the four pieces fantastic first album as a group.
In case you didn't know, AlterBridge are a concoction of three members from American rock band Creed, including the fantastic guitarist Mark Tremonti, banging bassist Brian Marshall and the hardcore Scott Phillips, a guy who drums a whole new heart beat into each and every song. Then there was the very talented Myles Kennedy on vocals, who found moderate success with a little known band called the Mayfield Four. His voice on many tracks send chills up ...

Alter Bridge: Mark Tremonti (vocals, guitar); Myles Kennedy (vocals); Brian Marshall (bass instrument); Scott Phillips (drums). Recording information: The Sound Studios, Atlanta, Georgia; Empty Studios, Orlando, Florida. Soon after the demise of Creed was made public to the world, guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott "Flip" Phillips, and returning bassist Brian Marshall announced they would form a new band. Enter singer Myles Kennedy of the fiercely underrated Mayfield Four, also known for his cameo in the movie ROCK STAR. Like that film's main character, Kennedy picks up the torch tossed aside by a departing frontman, leading to Alter Bridge's debut, ONE DAY REMAINS. The chemistry of the group on this album is an undeniable force. While inevitable shadows of Creed cast themselves across "Broken Wings" and "Open Your Eyes," the bulk of new material is fresher and stronger than much of that ensemble's work. "The End Is Here" and the title track, in particular, showcase the band's strengths, boasting a musical depth and songwriting craft that seemed beyond the reach of Alter Bridge's previous incarnation. Tremonti plays with renewed fire and conviction, while Kennedy's emotive tenor glides above with soulful ease. Named by Tremonti for a personal symbol of crossing into the unknown, Alter Bridge does so with reverence for the past and an even keener sense of the future.
