One Man Against The World - Gregory Isaacs

Advantages: Excellent chill out music, what a voice!
Disadvantages: You can't sing along to some songs cos you can't suss the words out!

...Just sitting here tonight chilling I read an opinion earlier that gave Gregory Isaacs a mention. Now, he's been one of my favourites for years so I thought I'd share one of his many albums with you. Red Rose For Gregory was released way back in 1988 but has been re-released many times due to it's unerring popularity, hopefully this review will convince you to give him a try. So who is Gregory Isaacs? He's only THE reggae dancehall master - Sean Paul wasn't even born when Gregory started releasing his reggae classics and now Sean Paul is not only born but also out of nappies and into condoms, Gregory is still doing the business. He's well over 50 now and commonly referred to as the 'Grandaddy of Reggae', not bad for a guy who was at one time being busted for gun charges on a regular basis in 70's Jamaica! ...IF you won't get away from heavy metal,punk and rap RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is the band for you.A cross between rap and punk makes this band a true originality.If you haven't got their album [THE BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES] then you should seriosly think about asking for it at christmas. The album consist of 12 songs all of which are something you've never heard before.With this in mind you'd think that nothing could get better. But hold on dude,with Zack De La Rocha on vocals,y.tim.k on bass,Brad Wilk on drums and Tom Morello on guitar all of which are very talented people it makes them the best band in the world.From a band once which no one had even heard of,they are geting popular and popular every second.So you'd better whatch out because soon my freind they will take over the world.......... Advantages: Amazing lyrically, good collection
Disadvantages: Couple of tracks missing the rawness

.... This is a band who can hold their own against anyone who is out there at the moment. 'But I will come back....I will come back....I will come back' Grohl is a very convincing frontman, and it makes you wonder how Nirvana would have been had the limelight not been so firmly set on Cobain. Grohl has mastered his art. He is a world renowned drummer, whose presence is requested by many artists, but he has also improved his guitar playing no end since the first Foo Fighter's album. I think he feels more confident in approaching songwriting that he has allowed some rawness back into his music, and I for one welcome the punk influence that is so apparent on this album. The current line up of Grohl, drummer Taylor Hawkins, bassist Nate Mendel and guitarist Chris Shiflett seems the most balanced out of the various line ups they have had over the years... Read review
