Since his inaugural Tru Thoughts release in 2001 Will 'Quantic' Holland has been involved ... more
in a staggering six albums (as Quantic, The Limp Twins and The Quantic Soul Orchestra). He has also found the time to remix lots of other peoples tracks, many of which have wound up on this insightful anthology alongside a prime selection of Hollands one-off recordings. Twenty Seven tracks might initially seem to much, but the fact that there are not only remixes by Quantic but also of Quantic, plus tracks from his forthcoming double album and previously unreleased material such as his funk-tastic collaboration with Mr Scruff, "Giraffe Walk", makes it sufficiently varied. The mix of hip hop, Latin grooves, soul, funk, Afrobeat, trip hop and broken beat--spread carefully across two discs--creates a contagious feeling of musical liberalism, and the calibre of songs like Hollands remix of Victor Malloys "The Girl Who Wasnt There", "Mishaps Happening" (with new vocal overdubs by Alice Russell) and the Seiji and Matt Lord version of "Dont Joke With A Hungry Man", testifies to Quantics seemingly limitless talent. --Paul Sullivan

Advantages: New tracks to hear from the acoustic artist Disadvantages: fairly short with some same songs as the album "O"
Damien Rice has become an under-rated acoustic star since the release of his debut album "O". Many people say that "O" is the greatest album that they have ever purchased, and so fans weren't disappointed when Damien Rice released his album "B-Sides". Since "B-Sides" was released many fans have been confused as to whether some of the songs on "B-Sides" are infact, even better than some of the songs on "O".
Damien Rice has worked with the band that he usually works with both live and that he worked with when creating "O". They are:
Damien Rice: Vocals, guitars, and songwriter
Lisa Hannigan: Vocals
Tomo: Drums
Vyvienne Long: Cello
Shane Fitzsimons: Bass
also featured on this album who was not featured on "O" is Nickie Geddes who plays the Cello on the track "Woman like a Man (Live unplugged)"
"B-Sides" is definitely a great ...
Advantages: some new material, a nice change, maintains consistency Disadvantages: possible to hear alot previously without the b sides album
having become a massive damien rice fan many years ago i was excited about the release of some new material after a long time. The tracks are good however doesnt offer much more for the eager fans. The songs are without doubt still brilliant, however, songs like the professor and lonelily were quite easy to get hold of previously either from singles or websites. I know this the idea of a B-sides album, but B-side albums are often bought by avid fans rather than those wanting to see what his music is like. therefore, i presume that many who would purchase this B-sides 'album' would also have the songs from prior purchases of singles etc.
There are 8 tracks on this album.
1. The Professor & La Fille Danse [Live At Cornucopia] - This opening track is one of the best on the album. It has never been recorded in a studio before ...
Bonobo challenges the chillout industry with some smooth downtempo in Dial 'M' For Monkey, delivering quality tracks like "Noctuary" and "Flutter". This album carries a slow, measured ambience that caresses the soul.
Downtempo (or Downbeat) is a very laid-back style of electronic music, similar to ambient music. It's usually permeated with funky head bobbing rhythms, the stressed beat coinciding with the downtempo e.g. the first and third beat of every measure (a segment of time in musical notation). A counter example could be drum 'n bass or punk rock, where the beat corresponds to the uptempo.
Dial 'M' for Monkey makes use of looped jazz riffs and simple yet mesmerizing basslines, always letting the consumer retain more with each listen. In fact, Bonobo is best appreciated in its subtlety and "little" sounds. It's easy to listen ...
