One Step Beyond - Various Artists

...Any Trance fans out there will know Above and Beyond and will probably know they are behind the AnjunaBeats label. Well this album was released to celebrate the 100th release on Anjunabeats. This album is 2 CD's showcasing the best Anjunabeats releases out of those 100, so naturally there are some excellent tracks on this album, some of the best include - Helsinki Scorchin by Super8 & Tab, the beautiful Alone Tonight by Above & Beyond and (one of my favourite tracks ever) Air For Life by Above & Beyond and Andy Moor. The 1st CD is very good but even better - the whole 2nd CD of this album is brilliant! With not one bad track, it has an excellent flow to it starting off with some smooth chilled trance and working through the a cracking finale. This album is a must for any Trance fan. :-)... Advantages: Lots of good tracks
Disadvantages: A few dongers

...are good, but there are a few dongers, such as 2 Unlimited and Musical Youth. My favourite tracks are The Grease Mega Mix, and Nik Kershaw's I won't let the sun go down on me. The tracks I hate the most are Samantha Fox, and Musical Youth's Pass the Douchie. As an extra you get a bonus interative CD, which feature a CD video of Steps, Tradegy. Advantages: 31 excellent tracks out of 39. Not bad going!
Disadvantages: Repetition of artists and a few loose Pete Waterman connections.

...has never been bettered. Not even by the mighty Steps. Many of the other artists featured on this album have more than one song on offer. I suppose this is because it's difficult to pin-point "The Ultimate" Kylie, Bananarama or Jason Donovan hit, so throwing in 3 or more is a safe option. Towards the end of the album, the Pete Waterman connection gets a little stretched. Stephen Gately, Westlife and Jackson 5 have all had songs either re-mixed or produced for them by Pete Waterman, but they hardly provide the camp naffness of a Sonia hair-don't or a Donna Summer brown leather jacket that the 80s Pete conjours up. I was also a little disappointed that Sybil and Sinitta had been over-looked (possibly in favour of Tina Cousins and Undercover?), but the album still works without them.
