To start I'd like to say that when I had previously seen One Tree Hill on Tv I'd just changed the channel as I thought it looked like something for kids. Well that all changed I was down the video shop and I thought that rather than get a film I would get a TV series, I picked up the tried and trusted Sex and the City and then for some crazy reason I decided to be reckless (this is reckless for me, I'm rubbish at starting to watch new shows) and get the first series of one tree hill.
The start of the series seemed to be all about basketball and I thought I was right with my first impression, but by the 2nd disc (there are 6 disks) I was hooked, I don't want to give too much away incase you choose to watch it but it's basically about 2 brothers who were not brought up together and have been told to hate each other by their dad and the way they deal with life and the things they get up to.
When the series ended I was gutted and needed something to wean me off the TV and rewatching the series again. I checked on the internet to see if there was a soundtrack and came across the one I am writing about, I didn't know if it would be any good but I was very surprised. The songs remind you of the show and you find yourself reliving the best moments.
There are 14 songs on the CD - Gavin DeGraw - I don't want to be - Anyone that has watched the show will know this song as it is the theme tune, it is quite a rocky song and really catchy, this is the live version.
The Wreckers - the good kind - On the show there are lots of bands that play in a club and these are one of the ones that play, before the show I had never heard of them but I am going to get their album now. This song is quite a slow romantic song and gets you singing along.
Jimmy eat world - kill - I can't recollect where in the series this song came from but it's a fast song and livens the CD up so you don't end up crying by the end....lol, it seems like a heartbreaker moment as it's talking about not wanting to walk away.
Travis - Reoffender - I think this is the weakest song on the album and to be honest I always skip it, I find it too slow and depressing. I'm sure Travis fans would like it though as it's the sort of stuff he does and I normally like that sort of stuff.
The get up kids - overdue - This song is a bit hit and miss, if you want to sing along this song doesn't really give you too much passion to want to sing along.
Rock n Roll soldiers - Funny little feeling - I love this song, it's quite headbanging and very upbeat, there's a lot of yelling going on in the background but that only seems to add to the effect.
Tyler Hylton - Glad - This song is brilliant, I think this guy has an amazing voice as it is really gravelly, I didn't even have to wonder where this song came on the show as you instantly remember him dedicating it to Hayley on the show. It's a really emotional song.
22-20's - Shoot your gun - This is another quick rocky song, it seems like they have got a real mix on this album, to be honest this song is not really my sort of song.
Story of the year - Sidewalks - This is a really catchy sing along song, I don't know where it really fitted into the show but you don't need to have watched the show to enjoy this song.
Tyler Hilton & Bethany Joy Lenz - When the stars go blue - This is without a doubt my favourite song on the album, both of the singers were actors on the show and sang this song together and went on tour together which was a major plot, they can really sing and there is a lot of passion.
Keane - Everybodys Changing - I'm sure I don't need to say much about this as it is such a popular song but I'll give you my quick view.......legendary song!!
Butch Walker - Mixtape - When I first heard this song i didn't think much of it but as I have listened to it more I have grown to love it, it starts out slow and then picks up quite a bit.
Sheryl Crow - The first cut is the deepest - This is a great song that it well known, not sure where it was on the show and I'm sure I would have remembered it but it's one you will recognise and hopefully love like I do.
Trespassers William - Lie in the sound - I think this song is too slow and doesn't really pick up the pace.
That's the end of the CD, I know there are some songs on there that I have said I don't think were great but the vast majority of them are and I would strongly advise you to give it a go.
The Cover - The cover has all the cast on it and on the back has a list of all the songs, there are not any lyrics inside the cover.
The cost - The cost varies at different places, I 1st went to Amazon and got a copy for 4.97 but then it got to a week and it wasn't there so I went to Fopp and got the CD for 13.00, a week later my one from Amazon arrived as well, I now have one for the car and the home....I think I may be addicted.
I really hope this has helped you in your decision....happy singing.
Advantages: You don't have to like the TV show to like the CD Disadvantages: All the songs sound pretty similar
This review was one of the first ones I wrote for Ciao, I have now re-vamped it to hopefully reach Ciao standard.
THE BACKGROUND
One Tree Hill Season 2 has just finished. It was shown on E4 every Thursday at 9pm, and then again on E4+1 straight after. One Tree Hill is an American teen drama. Set in Tree Hill this show follows the story of Lucas and Nathan. They are half brothers who initially don't get on, but basketball brings them together. I ... ...show, I think it is one of the best programmes on TV. The actors/actresses are all really good and play their characters well. They are all 'beautiful' people and this is what they use to promote this cd. The five main cast members are lying down, seemingly entwined. If you watch the programme you will know who the characters are straight away and will know that them touching each other symbolises the complex relationships they all have with each ...

Additional notes
Album Notes: This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. In the early 2000s, when radio and music-video formats became somewhat restricted, teen shows on major TV networks became the new place for up-and-coming bands to be heard. Like its soundtrack-disc brethren MUSIC FROM THE O.C. and EVERWOOD, the ONE TREE HILL album is an intriguing mix of artists trafficking in spot-on teenage yearning and angst. Show creator Mark Schwahn's tastes dictate his series' musical content, and this unerring passion found him tapping heartthrob singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw for "I Don't Want to Be," the show's theme song, represented here by a live version. Other acts include the harmony-soaked Michelle Branch/Jessica Harp side-project the Wreckers ("The Good Kind"), sensitive Brit-popsters Travis ("Re-Offender") and Keane ("Everybody's Changing"), and emo kings Jimmy Eat World ("Kill"). Particularly nice touches are the contributions by singer/songwriter Tyler Hilton, who has a recurring role on the show. Hilton's self-penned, acoustic "Glad" sounds like a Goo Goo Dolls outtake, and his heartfelt duet with co-star Bethany Joy Lenz on Ryan Adams's "When the Stars Go Blue" does its writer justice. The ONE TREE HILL soundtrack hits its mark as a smart and varied pop music sampler.
