I have been a big fan of Bon Jovi for years and I have only recently retired the thousands of posters of them from my bedroom wall after my convinced me that Jon Bon Jovi is now going bald and has to brush the remaining areas of long hair over a thinning patch at the back. Arrr bless me I think he’s sexy and dropping into the chart at number 2 with this album should not be smirked at. Bon Jovi’s lyrics once said “don’t you know that all my heroes died” well mine have got old and fat, look at James T Kirk, it’s a depressing life fact., these things happen. I still have great respect for Bon Jovi they’re Not Old Just Older (a song from the Crush album)…and this is an excellent album to reflect their past success but also to illuminate the fact that they are still a powerful and successful group writing new material and touring the world.
The first time you
look at this CD it appears just to be a compilation CD almost a greatest hits album but it isn’t!!! One Wild Night is a CD put together from live recordings of songs from all over the world between 1985 and 2001. It is much much more than a collection of old tunes.
For my 17th birthday I went to see my long term heroes actually on my birthday in Stoke football grounds and it was an amazing performance, this is a band that puts it’s heart and sole into the music and you get the impression that you wouldn’t be able to see the same show, everything is ad lib and definitely performed live (Jon Bon Jovi forgot the words to “Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars” and had to start again - during the show and I still haven’t forgiven him.) what I mean is, they change things little things the guitar solos the speed and even the instrument.
I already have most of the songs from the CD on tapes thrown in a box under my bed so I was pleased to find a CD of great songs, the live versions are really good though because you can hear the harmonies better it is more natural and you can feel the band enjoy being a band and performing.
Personally I think they killed “Someday I’ll be Saturday Night” absolutely murdered the start, it’s all slow and drawn out, the original was better but makes it different to other recordings that have been floating around for as long as I’ve been alive. But I mean they must get bored of performing the same songs too.
This is a must have album for all self-respecting Bon Jovi fans it combines old with new, from classics like “Livin' on a Prayer” to “It’s My Life” from just last year. Over the years the band and music has evolved it’s over its bad perms and rock to a more relaxed style but never forgetting its roots. And although my mum mocks look at what she married!!!!!! I’m sure my Dad couldn’t get one leg into Jon’s tight leather trousers…
Oh and also on the CD is “I don’t Like Monday’s” a duet with Bob Geldof…a cracking track I’ve not seen on any of the other Bon Jovi albums
Do I need to tell you about the style of music? I hope not. I think they’re reputation should fill in the gaps, basically they are a group of 4 sexy blokes (although Tico does have bad curly hair), who despite now creeping closer to the big 4 0 and being married with sprogs, dress like they did in the 80s in tight trousers and what used to be a rock band have calmed down slightly into a light rock. They play guitars and sing; even my dad quite likes them!!
My point is it is an excellent album that shows the range of styles and times they have moved through all on one CD but even if you already have all the tracks things are just different enough to make it interesting without messing with things that aren’t broken.
The quality of talent is high, they write as well as play which are two VERY IMPORTANT facts I hate bands with no talent and you only have to listen to one guitar solo to know ever band member deserves his place, Richie Sambora being the best guitarist ever to have lived (in my humble opinion although I come close)
All I can say is Rock On; they aren’t passed there sell buy date just yet!

Don't really like Bon Jovi, but i'll leave a comment since this opinion looked rather lonely without one. All the others on your page have comments and they might gang up on this op if it doesn't have at least one mad rambling. Enjoy the holidays !!!!!
