I have been a fan of Kings of Leon since they released their first album "Youth & Young Manhood", at the time of generic Indie and Emo bands their blues ridden style of rock and roll and their late 60's deep south image was a breath of fresh air. I have followed them ever since going to various gigs and buying their albums.
At first when I heard the album before this "Because Of The Times” I was skeptical because their raw energy had been shaped into a more produced sound, and their image had also seemed a lot more clean cut. However having listened to the album a few times it dawned on me that I was comparing this to their other albums when really I should have been looking at it as a separate entity. When I did I loved it, which leads me to this album.
The songs are again a little cleaner and definitely more produced whether this is because they are now so popular that they are aiming towards a more "stadium sound" or it is just a natural progression it does not matter this is one hell of an album.
From the offset with tracks like Crawl and Sex On Fire you just can not help but sing a long. The stand out tracks for me though are 17 and Notion both soulful and melodic they encompass the rawness of the older songs with a new mature sound which I think produces some of their best work to date.
Like the others you can listen to this album all the way through without having to skip past any "filler" tracks and you will soon find yourself listening to it over and over.
This is an uplifting anthemic album which has catapulted the Kings of Leon to super stardom. A part of me wishes that they weren’t so popular and that the people who have only bought this album are just jumping on the bandwagon but that’s just me being selfish. I can't keep them to myself so go out and buy this and give them the recognition they deserve.

Can do with a bit more detail on the various tracks, but a great first review. I love Kings of Leon too, since they first came out, and have not yet got this CD but it's on my to-do list!
