Album Reviews: The Source (8/95, p.79) - 3.5 Mics - Dope - "...The Luniz...take the typical Oakland sound to another level...a combination of insane lyrics and street-core knowledge....tight lyrics and tight tracks...a must to compete in this diverse rap game..."
Advantages: A bit of fun, gives you a bit of a break from serious hip-hop. Disadvantages: Weak lyrics, lack of originality
...tracks by people such as the legendary Notorious B.I.G.
My personal favourite track on this album is ‘Satisfy You’ where Puffy teams up with the highly talented R. Kelly. The sample for this record is ‘I Got 5 On It’ by Luniz and, I’ve got to say, I prefer ‘Satisfy You’. Dare I say Puff Daddy is perhaps a good start for Hip-Hop virgins? Don't expect him to be representative of all artists though....

Advantages: three good tracks Disadvantages: the rest of the album
...You"
The remix released last year with R. Kelly was far superior to this original, which is really just another bland, unspeakably soppy ballad.
BONUS TRACK: "The One : Version 2"
Good thing she didn't label it "Part 2" as nowadays this seems to mean a completely re-written version of the original track. This simply pairs her verses with the original "You are everything" chorus. It hardly seems worth bothering.
BONUS TRACK: "I'm Gonna Be Alright"
This song, originally on the "J-Lo" album, was remixed for "J to the LO" and is now virtually unrecognisable to the original, although the lyrics haven't changed and the general tune hasn't altered. This version is, however, far superior, it samples a tune called "Why You Treat Me So Bad" (which has previously been sampled in the Luniz track "I got Five On it" and the Puffy/r.Kelly track...

Advantages: Excellent bouncy punk fuelled songs Disadvantages: if u don't like punk, u won't like this
...I love this album so much and could listen to it over and over again especially when feeling down it really brightens up my day. Each every songs is great and uplifting, they just make u wanna skank around in a mental fashion. My fave songs are Take Warning and Sound System but all of the songs are amazing. If your new to punk then this is a great starter point as it's not too heavy but not too poppy. If you are a fan of Rancid then you should like Operation Ivy alot too, similar styles but both original. Erm.....what else can i say about Operation Ivy, can't think of ne thing else just that I guarantee you will not be dissapointed by this band, they r wiickedly awesome....
