Advantages: Dubby and Dancey all in one Disadvantages: Not as stand out as some counterparts
...As I sat infront of my CDs, wondering what I should listen to to get me through the rest of the night I thought about throwing on something loud and aggresive....hmm no, maybe something fast and drummy....hmm no.
Its at times like these that you should almost always reach for a dub album. I quickly shuffled to the dub section of my CDs and grabbed one, it just so happened to be Orb.
Now there is something about the "Dub" genre that doesn't inspire me to write reviews, it inspires me to lie on the floor with no lights on and start to float away to places unknown simply by listening to this music.
So here we are, and the album comes in at a very respectable 1:12:56, which is masterfully long and just screams "epic tracks that will melt you to nothing".

...Back to Mine – The Orb
The Back to Mine series is a series of records that are compiled by well known musicians and DJ’s to give to their fans an idea of what the music would be like if they went back to a party with them. The CD has the slogan “A personal collection for after hours grooving” which pretty much sums it up. The series started back on the 1st February 1999 and was compiled then by DJ Nice Warren. The 25 different artists have included the likes of Groove Armada, Underworld, Faithless and the Pet Shop Boys.
This time it was the turn of The Orb. The Orb started out in 1988 and were DJ’s Alex Patterson and Jimmy Cauty. Since then they have gone through a series of different DJ’s including Kris Weston, Simon Phillips...

Advantages: Double album full of intelligent music Disadvantages: Not for technoheads
...The Orb is Alex Patterson, ex Killing joke roadie and electronics wizard. He formed The Orb in the late eighties after a colaborations with various groups such as KLF. 'Chill out' by KLF was going to be the first Orb album.
So this is the first of many Orb albums and includes their most famous track, 'Little Fluffy Clouds' which finally made top ten after being re-issued. It also includes the dub track 'Perpetual dawn'.
This album is an excursion through the universe without leaving your house. The start of the 90s brought an ambient revival first made popular in the 70s by people like Brian Eno. It drifts in and out of the tracks like you are passing through different galaxies without problems of black holes or meteorites. Even though you are millions of miles away The Orb protect you throughout. It's minimal but keeps you hooked...
