Anyone who bought the first album 'Showbiz' will no doubt have been dying to lay their hands on this, their second album. Echoing influences of radiohead and jeff buckley, muse have created a stunning follow up packed with dramatic guitar riffs and haunting vocals.
The album starts with NEWBORN. Soft vocals and a magical background give a superb build up to rock classic. Every song seems to contain a unique and easily identifyable guitar riff that will definitely hav you playing air guitar when no one is around. BLISS is best played really, really loud because the whole song is totally full of energy. SPACE DEMENTIA has a beautiful beginning that even my dad liked! It's rolling piano tunes give the song character and diversity. HYPER MUSIC happens to be my mobile ring tone! Its a great tune that really stays with you and i found myself repeating the tune in my head to continue the effect it had when i first heard it.
PLUG IN BABY has probably the most famous riff and when played in a room, look out for all the people that start violently nodding their heads when the drums kick in as you'll find yourself doin it when your not even concentrating! CITIZEN ERAZED is again a song that starts with a real catchy riff and waits for the drums to join later and along with air guitar will come the air drums! MICRO CUTS is a softer, melodical song that makes you wonder if matt belamy is sitting down ok!! his haunting voice echoes the styles off vocal legend jeff buckley and is soothing enough to put you to sleep, only to be woken up as the song progressess. A dramatic crashing ending will bring you to your senses and prepare you for a real odd one next! SCREENAGER has a beautiful acoustic feel to it and the unusual drumming and sound effect almost sound egyptian (or foreign anyway!!) and prove just what this band is capable of. DARKSHINES i found to be the most depressing of the all the songs so far. It is filled with strong emotion and a heavy background. If that gets you down, FEELING GOOD will surely pick you up. This is a classic song designed to make you feel good especially if you sing along (thats if you can keep up with matt!). MEGLOMANIA is the type song you would expect to find being played at a very dramatic scene in a theatre production. Thats all i can say. It's a great dramatic ending packed with feeling and emotion and and when you've listened to the whole of this album, you really know it!! If you love unusual, alternative music the this is definetly worth a look in. Muse are a very talented band with incredible vocals and stunning guitar play, not to mention the drumming. You can really let your hair down with these tracks and have a good mosh at the same time!! ENJOY!!!!!!

Other than from this and a friend, I've never heard much abut Muse, let alone good things! Though I'm sure this is not for my stereo! Chunka!

Nice to see another Muse fan on here! At the moment, I am playing them like crazy, argh, I love them so much. :). I went to see them live last year and apart from PJ Harvey, it was one of the best shows I have *ever* attended. Good review on a wonderful band and I agree that Bliss should be played on full blast!!
Advantages: Expands musical soundscape for non-believers Disadvantages: May take a few listens to really absorb and enjoy
