...of Key Stage 1 children. The pictures are dated, and children do notice that there are very few colours and that the people are "wearing funny clothes". The backdrop to Harry's life is different to today, but when children comment on the strange train or the coal chute, this promotes discussion about life before they were born (and in the greater scheme of things not So long ago). There is so much to get out of the illustrations alone- for example, look out for the parasol on the roller and the people driving through the building site. However, what they notice most is Harry. He is such an appealing little dog, and drawn exactly as children draw dogs- with a smiling face. ...Schindlers Ark was the original book written by Thomas Keneally after a lot of research and testamonies of Schindler survivors. The book later spawned the film which was beautifully shot by Stephen Spielberg and did the book a lot of justice. Without the hard work of Keneally and survivors like Leopold Pffeferberg the Schindler story may have been lost to all but the war historians. However in survivors terms the story is more of a ledgend as the Greedy womanising German is sickened by the sights in war torn Poland. Schindler embarks on a mission to save the Jews from extermintation and the book portrays a harrowing tale that in places is disturbing to read.
