Carmona sits on an elevated piece of land commanding sweeping views of the Corbones valley, around 30km from Seville. This is a very fertile region so it's no surprise that this strategic site, one of the few high points in the area, has been settled by humans for a long time.
How long?
I'm not going down the road of historical time-lines, but let's just say that there is evidence of human settlement from the neolithic period.
It was during the Roman occupation that the town flourished, and apparently, the old town still follows the original Roman urban plan. The defensive gates, Seville and Cordoba, are Roman, but the most important Roman site in the town has to be the Necropolis (more on that later).

It's been a while since I wrote a review and I had said to myself that I would wait until after my holiday to put fingers to keyboard once again. After sunning ourselves for 2 weeks in Magaluf, Majorca it's taken me a while to get back into the swing of everyday life in Blighty but I think I'm almost there (worst luck).
Well it's been almost a week since we got back and so I thought it was about time I put my review writing cap on once again and what better to review than the hotel we stayed in on our holiday.
The Don Juan Hotel is part of the Hoteles Saint Michel group and is a 3 star hotel situated in the quieter area of Magaluf. It was built in 1972 and extensively renovated during the winter of 1999 and has 182 rooms in total (161 twins and 21 single) which stretch over seven floors.

The hotel is a complex, known locally as the Royal Complex, which comprises the 5-star Rey Juan Carlos Hotel, the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya (Conference Centre), along with extensive leisure facilities. The hotel is very modern hotel, but with traditional routes, still evident within the hotel.
"The Leading Hotels of The World" market the hotel, which is a marketing company who have a number of the finest hotels in the world as members. The Rey Juan Carlos is considered to be the 35th best hotel in the world.
