The "écluses de Fonserannes" (locks of Fonseranne) were also conceived by Mr. Pierre Paul Riquet, in his natal town (coincidence or calculated project?) in 1697. They are spectacular in that there are 9 consecutive lock gates to reach the bottom of the 25 meter drop! Boyzone - 'Said And Done'
Boyzone are a manufactured boy band, put together by Louis Walsh in 1993. Their first hit was 'Love Me For A Reason', which made the number 2 spot in the charts in November 1994. They enjoyed further success throughout the remainder of the 1990s before splitting in 2000. They paved the way for international smash success band Westlife, also created by Louis Walsh.
Said And Done is Boyzone's first album, released in 1995. It has the hit song 'Love Me For A Reason' at track 3, and a couple of other hits including the cover of Cat Stevens' 'Father & Son'.

I first saw Hotel du Nord as part of a double bill with a film by Jean Renoir (I forget which - though I think the brilliant Le Crime De Monsieur Lange) and I was frankly going to see the Renoir film and thought, hmmm, I'll just have to sit through Hotel du Nord and grin and bear it. Something about the film just really didn't appeal. Then right from the opening shot that tracks down from the bridge over the canal Saint Martin and along the side of the canal to where the two lovers, played by Annabella and Jean-Pierre Aumont, settle against one another on a bench, despairing and apparently doomed I simply didn't look back. I couldn't.
