...announced that the follow up, Our Earthly Pleasure was going to be released I made sure I had a copy on pre order. It was going to be a hard task to follow up A Certain Trigger let alone better it, but Maximo Park gave it a go and this is the result. The 5 piece from Newcastle have managed to better that debut. It seemed to be a hard ask but with a more mature, louder sound they seem to have made an album that betters the first. It was obvious from ... ...way ahead of all the other Indie bands around at the same time and this album seems to reinforce that. They come across as very much the thinking man’s Indie band.
One of the most obvious factors about the bands music is the lack of a distinctive influence. They seem to have created a sound of their own and it seems that they are really bringing this sound into the mainstream. From the opening riff on the album it screams of something different ...

Advantages: Brilliant followup album, Our velocity, even weakest tracks are still good Disadvantages: n/a
...clubs 9/10
2) Our velocity - Wow! There is so much energy in this song and is a real floor filler from the band. The energy seems to get more intense throughout the song. This song is all about some speed and velocity as the band point out in the chorus. Excellent track and the best one on the album 10/10
3) Books from Boxes - The energy deployed in the first two tacks quickly vanishes with a nice slow opening to this track, which after the first ... ...Maximo Brown ale which was on sale for one month only
The band have so far released 10 singles in the UK from two albums. Only one of these has reached the top spot, which was our velocity, and Our Earthly pleasures reached number 2 in the album chart. ...

Advantages: Vocals, lyrics great mix of tracks Disadvantages: None if you like this genre of music
...death. The track was Our Velocity and comes from a band called Maximo Park.
Longer than I can remember I’ve heard the name of Maximo Park being banded about as being the next big thing and something to look out for. And for longer than I can remember I ignored all the hype and couldn’t have told you if I’d ever heard one of their tracks or not. On hearing this news I opened the list of albums on my PC and would you believe it I had a Maximo Park ... ...purchased Maximo Park’s latest offering, Our Earthly Pleasures.
>>>Maximo what?
As I say I’d heard the name and never really took any notice, so I thought I’d do a bit of research and find out who they are. Maximo Park former in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (it’s not the only Newcastle you know!) back in 2001. The story goes that forming members Duncan Lloyd (Guitar), Archis Tiku (Bass), Lukas Wooller (Keyboard) and Tom English (Drums) were starting out ...

Advantages: Catchy, the whole album flows, easy listenable and generally enjoyable Disadvantages: You won't stop listening to this (although I wouldn't regard that as a bad thing...)
...tracks (Girls who play guitars, our velocity and books from boxes) are a great start to the album, they really get you into the swing of things and are great party songs or so I keep being told.
I usually find that with an album I will have a few songs I particularly like and I skip straight to them each time, this Maximo Park album is not like that at all however.
You will put this album on and you won't be put out by it. Great tracks for different ... ...constructed album that flows right through until the end - which might just be worth pointing out, you won't want to come - so you'll end up leaving the album on loop, no doubt about it.
Go buy this album, you genuinely won't regret it, or at least you shouldn't. ...

Advantages: Great 2nd attempt from the newcastle band. New instant sing along athems Disadvantages: Sound has not significantly moved on and nothing compares to apply some preasure
...book to read onstage. On Our Earthly Pleasures, he comes off like a young John Cleese playing Morrissey, singing, "When it comes to girls, I’m mostly hypothetical/If I list their names, it’s purely alphabetical." The U.K. indie band’s second album has beefed-up sound (from Pixies producer Gil Norton) and increasingly brilliant, not-at-all-pretentious gems like "Girls Who Play Guitars," "Russian Literature" and "Karaoke Plays." Whether he’s rocking ... ...line like his girlfriend is downstairs loading her boxes of books into her new boyfriend’s car. And if he misses the books more than he misses her, that’s just part of his charm. However nothing seems to compare to the brilliant apply some preasure. Yet all these songs have potential to be brilliant live anthems but unless your a die hard maximo park fan you may find yourself fed up that the sound is very similar and that there does not seem to be ...
