Well having reviewed a band that take themselves far too seriously I thought after finding the category for this album that I should go from the serious to the ridiculous. So with that here I am doing an op on The Shirehorses second album. The follow up to The Worst Album in The World Ever.....ever, Our Kid Eh promised to be just as comical.
For anyone who is unaware of the Shirehorses, they are of course Radio 1’s very own Mark and Lard along with The Dark prince and Dick “The Buttocks” Scruttock. The comedy duo basically take well known songs and have a laugh with them, changing the lyrics into a comedy song but Keeping the music almost exactly the same.
So as well as changing the lyrics of the songs they have also changed the titles of all the songs. So song wise what’s on it:
1) If Tolerate This P*ss... - Manic Street Sweepers 2) No Big Sizes - Radioshed 3) Ars*holes - Robbie and William 4) Why Is It Always Dairy Lea - Dave Lea Travisty 5) F**king Around - Dave Lee Travisty 6) Pardon? - Indecipherable Boys 7) Quorn Medley - Status Quorn 8) Bellow - Foreplay 9) A Roll With It - Po Fasis 10) Horny - Chocolate Mousse Tea 11) Feel Like Sh*te - Doofergrass 12) Country Spouse - Blurb 13)Tony - M&M Ft. Bridie from the Canteen 14) Planet Of Sound - The Pixiedancers
Really the actual content of each song is described by the title, most of them have something to do with food or drink at some point during it. I go back on what I was saying earlier about the musical quality as it is actually pretty shocking but its not the music you would buy it for, its the comical lyrics.
The album really carries on the theme of their radio show with jokes such as Back of the Mike a bit being used in songs. I’m currently listening to it for the second time in as many days and to be honest it is one of those albums that if you listen to it once every few months then its still quite funny, a bit like the radio show. But if you listen to it too often its not actually that good and you don’t really feel like listening to much of it.
A few of the tracks do have more appeal but not really too many of them. There isn’t really much more that can be said about the tracks, after a while they all start to sound the same. My favourite tracks on the album has to be Why is it Always Dairy Lea and Tony but even they grow old quickly if you listen to them too many times.
So if your looking for decent music then I’d advise not buying this album, if on the other hand you want something to laugh at once in a while then buy this. It’s available from Amazon.co.uk for £7.99. For an album that promised so much it really has failed to deliver.
I don’t think there will be many people reading who can’t recognise what song its meant to be so I’ll leave the track listing like that but if you want to know then leave me a comment and I’ll let you know.
